Founded in 2019, Hebden Bridge Film Festival (HBFF) celebrates stories that challenge, inspire, and shine a light on voices often left unheard. Each year we showcase international and UK features and shorts, alongside masterclasses, panels, and networking opportunities with leading industry professionals.

Proud to be an F-Rated festival, we champion films created by and about women, as well as stories from those on the margins, outside the mainstream, or who simply don’t fit in.

Our home is the beautifully restored Hebden Bridge Picture House, a 520-seat art deco cinema at the heart of a vibrant, welcoming town in the stunning Calder Valley. And for 2026, we’re thrilled to announce the iconic Trades Club as our second venue — adding another atmospheric setting where filmmakers and audiences can connect.

For 2026, we are accepting submissions in feature films (live action, documentary, animation) and short films (live action, documentary, animation). We particularly encourage narrative storytelling. Please note: we generally do not programme horror. Winning UK shorts are considered for festival awards and screenings.

The Calderdale Shorts Competition 2026

After a successful launch in 2025 and enthusiastic audience acclaim, we’re delighted to keep this local competition as part of our 2026 programme — continuing our commitment to celebrating and supporting homegrown talent.

HBFF is more than a festival — it’s a meeting point for passionate filmmakers and film lovers. We look forward to welcoming you to Hebden Bridge this March.

This was the first time I attended the Hebden Bridge Film Festival and also the first time I ever submitted a film to a festival so I was delighted not only to have been selected, but to have placed 2nd in my category. The range of films screened over the festival weekend was fantastic. Every film I saw was impactful and of high quality. The hospitality of the festival organisers and volunteers was wonderful. Super friendly, super welcoming (even providing a free lunch on one of the days!). Also the talks and mixers organised were fascinating and useful. Highly recommend to filmmakers to submit their work and attendees to get themselves over to this beautiful part of the UK.

A wonderful film festival, with a brilliant selection of films screened, fantastic networking and workshop events and a really welcoming and friendly team behind it. The weekend pass was very good value, and I was so delighted to have my film selected – and for it to win in its category. I will definitely get involved again in the future, and really recommend it to other filmmakers!

My first ever film festival, with my first ever short film and it was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful in answering my questions. Sadly I was only able to attend the screening of the shorts (including my film) not attend the other events, but my friends who did go said they were v good. I'd recommend HBFF to others and hope to be back there next year. Well done to the team behind it.
