Harry Besel began his studies at the Kunsthochschule Kassel in 2015 in the "Visual Communication" department, specialising in film. He completed his Master's degree with honours in March 2024.
In 2017 Harry started his own film production company “HXB Bewegtbild Produktion” to produce and finance several film projects both his own as well as co-producing video and film projects with other filmmakers such as Zenon Kristens award winning feature documentary “Between Heaven and Earth”.
In 2019 Besel shot the experimental film "Kugelmensch" [Ball Man], which was selected for the Hessia Talents and was nominated for the "Golden Hercules" at the Kassel Dokfest 2019 and won an award at the Polish "On Art Film Festival 2019".
In 2023, he completed his short film "GRENZER" wich is now in its festival exploitation phase and had its premiere at „KURZSUECHGTIG – Mitteldeutsches Kurzfilmfestival 2024“ in April 2024 where it competed in the section „Best Fiction Film“. Currently Harry is working on his next historical drama short film "Risen from Ruins", which deals with the difficult living conditions in the post-socialist east of the former GDR and Soviet Union. „Risen from Ruins“ is not only his graduate film at the School of Arts in Kassel but also a proof-of-concept for his first feature film that dives even deeper into the topic of post-socialist living conditions in eastern europe.
In October 2023 Besel worked as 1st Assistant Director for famous french director Bertrand Mandico for his upcoming shortfilm „Les Lunes Amères“.
Since November 2023 Besel is working as a Live Videocamera Operator at the Staatstheater Kassel for the theater play „Don Giovanni“ by Paul-Georg Dittrich – an interactive 360° play realised in the „Antipolis“ theater stage designed by Sebastian Hannak.
