Hannes Schmid is a German-Austrian actor with New Zealand and Nordic roots, raised in Austria. He began acting at age 4 and later studied acting for theater and film in Berlin and Vienna. Early in his career, he appeared in major productions, such as Til Schweiger's "Klassentreffen 1.0", the ARD film "Gloria", and Netflix's "Dogs of Berlin". Before and during his studies, he gained experience by creating short films, music videos, and advertisements.
In 2017, Hannes played lead roles in the short films "Barrier-free Date", about a man who falls for a deaf woman, and "Alles Relativ", as a student with a charismatic presence. In 2018, he starred as private detective Max Marek in "Schatten über dem Bodensee" and "Schatten im Paradies", and in the international comedy "Cheers to Life" as a womanizer who finds love on a trip to Serbia. That year, he also appeared as a journalist in "Das Wunder von Wörgl".
In 2019, Hannes portrayed Christian Bergmann in the TV pilot "Pristine" and Peter Schweiger in "Summit of Solitude", a family drama about a rebellious mountain farmer’s son. He also worked on his first Hollywood production, "The Contractor", doubling for Ben Foster. In 2021, he played a celebrity chef in RTL's "Alles was zählt" and produced and starred in the award-winning short film "Limbus". He continued with roles in the short film "Still" and the ZDF series "Der Bergdoktor", playing tattoo artist Fabian Marx in 2024.
Since 2024 he has been playing the role of Lars Behrens in the Sat1 and Joyn series "Die Spreewaldklinik".
Between 2017-2019, Hannes toured with the play "Kreativ Morden". In 2023, he performed in the theater comedy "Geliebte Hexe" and had previous roles in productions such as Arthur Schnitzler's "Anatol", Schiller's "The Robbers", and Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". He is also a producer and director, having produced various films since 2012.
A passionate athlete, Hannes is skilled in extreme sports. He was a ski jumper for four years, played football for 14 years, and coached youth football. He is a certified scuba and free-diving instructor, with nearly 700 dives, and holds personal records in breath-holding (4:52 minutes) and diving depth (69 metres). Additionally, he completed a skydiving course in 2014 and enjoys sports like skiing, snowboarding, weightlifting, climbing, and martial arts. Hannes practices daily yoga and meditation.
Hannes also works as a wedding orator, funeral speaker, model, event host, and entrepreneur. He served as a paramedic with the Red Cross for 14 years, trained in first aid and rescue diving, and was a Holocaust education specialist certified by the Anne Frank House.
Alongside his acting studies, Hannes holds a high school diploma(A-levels), is a trained retail merchant, office administrator, and has expertise in mechatronics, bartending, and event management. He was a state champion in political education and skiing, and won the "Friendliest Smile" competition of the Austria Economic Chamber in 2014.
