Hannah Espia-Farbova is a Filipino film and TV director, editor, writer, and producer. Hailed as an “impressive debut” by Variety, her 2013 debut feature Transit, premiered at the Busan International Film Festival to critical acclaim and was the Philippines’ entry to the 86th Academy Awards®. In 2018, Transit screened at the MoMA as part of the film series “A New Golden Age: Contemporary Philippine Cinema” and was ranked 11 out of 100 Best Filipino Films directed by Women in a 2019 poll by Filipino critics. In 2014, Espia-Farbova was featured on Remezcla Magazine’s “Ten Filipino Directors You Should Know” and Kore Magazine’s “The New Hollywood” issue in 2018 issue named her as one of five Visionary Asian-American Female Filmmakers.
A Fulbright Scholar, Espia-Farbova recently graduated from Ohio University with an MFA in Film. She is currently developing her second feature screenplay Everything Will Be Fine (formerly Learning to Build a Fire) funded by the Asian Cinema Fund (South Korea) and the Next Masters Tokyo Project Development Fund (Japan). In 2015, the screenplay was selected to be one of ten participants at the prestigious Berlinale Script Station and was shortlisted for the Sundance Screenwriter’s lab.
