Company
Markku Hakala, M.Sc, is a Finnish artist/filmmaker exploring cinema as a medium of intuition instead of story telling. From 2017 he worked duo with his parner Mari Käki on his first feature Giant’s Kettle, which was introduced at Tallinn Black Nights and was awarded as The Best Debut Film at Festival de Cinema de Girona 2024.
His debut feature film challenges many givens of the film making process and the film language and working on all aspects of film from pre- to post-production has brought him multiple awards for direction, cinematography and sound design.
Markku has a background in computer science and prior to films he has worked as a researcher and entrepreneur in the field of games, working with brands from Disney, Lucasarts, EA, Pixar and Warner Bros.
