HUSSLUP and Michael Showalter’s Semi-Formal Productions have partnered to launch a feature script competition for HUSSLUP members. We invite you to submit your finished feature script in the romantic comedy genre!

Here is some basic info:
★ Script Overview:
Semi-Formal is looking for diverse, inventive Romantic Comedy features with distinct perspectives and characters that have a perfect balance of true heart and hilarious humor.

★ Submission Overview:
Finished drafts only. Eligible scripts cannot have been pitched or shared with studios or production companies prior to submission to the competition. One submission per person. Your first submission will be the only submission considered. You must be a member of HUSSLUP to qualify for the competition. Here's the link to join: https://husslup.com/

★ Deadline to Submit Your Materials:
March 11, 2024 at Midnight PT.

★ Tentative Schedule for the Competition:
April 12, 2024: HUSSLUP will announce Five Finalists
April 26, 2024: HUSSLUP will announce the Winner

The Winner will get a meeting with Semi-Formal Productions, and a produced table read with professional actors in front of an industry audience. Semi-Formal may option the winning script at their sole discretion.

★ Terms and Conditions: HUSSLUP x Semi-Formal Productions Script Competition

- All submissions must be through the site.
- All entrants must sign the Submission Release and agree to the Terms and Conditions to be eligible for the competition.
- All entrants must be a member of HUSSLUP to be eligible for the competition.
- The competition is open to finished feature scripts in the romantic comedy genre.
- Must be written in English.
- Incomplete submissions will not be considered. The complete submission includes: logline, short 500-word synopsis, HUSSLUP profile link, contact information, fully signed submission release, and accepted Terms & Conditions.
- One submission per person. The first submission will be the only submission considered. - All submissions are final. No substitutions or additions to materials will be allowed after the submission.
- All scripts submitted will remain the property of the submitter. Neither HUSSLUP nor Semi-Formal Productions nor any of its judges and/or their respective companies assume any attachment to your unique work.
- Scripts submitted in the competition must NOT have been optioned, purchased or produced prior to submission.
- Must be 18 years old and over to enter.
- Must be an original script; free and clear of any copyright or ownership issues.
- Material must be the original work of the submitter(s). Submitter(s) agree that they own the rights to the pitch.
- Neither HUSSLUP nor Semi-Formal Productions nor any of its judges and/or competition partners investigate or confirm the authenticity of an entrant’s authorship rights or claim.
- Material created by teams must be submitted by one of the team members, with consent of the other(s).
- If a team is chosen as a winner, any prizes will be given to the person who submits the project. Each team is responsible for dividing or sharing the prize benefits.
- Entrants may be contacted as a result of the competition by HUSSLUP, Semi-Formal
Productions, a member of the judging panel, or other industry professionals.
- HUSSLUP and Semi-Formal Productions are not responsible for any technical issue(s) that may arise from electronic submission and/or voting.
- HUSSLUP and Semi-Formal Productions Competition script readers’ decisions are final.
- Submissions will be evaluated by experienced industry experts and judged on the criteria of: Premise/Concept, Structure, Originality, and Voice/Style. Submissions will receive evaluations based on the competition's proprietary scoring system.
- The deadline for submissions is Monday, March 11th, 2024 at Midnight PT.
- Competition Dates are tentative and subject to change.
- HUSSLUP and Semi-Formal Productions reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to change or modify these terms at any time without notice.

- When you enter the HUSSLUP x Semi-Formal Productions Competition, you agree to the below Submission Release.

★ Submission Release Form

HUSSLUP, Inc, and Semi-Formal Productions, and their parents, subsidiaries, affiliates and networks (“Companies”) thank you for your ideas, scripts, pitches, literary material, and other suggestions and materials (“Submission” or “Submissions”). Companies will receive Submissions like Yours (as defined immediately below) after You review this Submission Release Agreement (“Agreement”). This Agreement sets forth Your rights, and the rights and obligations of Companies, with respect to any Submission. This Agreement is necessary to avoid any misunderstanding, and to protect all parties. Companies will only accept and consider Your Submission after You agree to the terms set forth in this Agreement. Any reference to “You” or “Your” in this Agreement applies to (i) you and your subsidiaries and affiliates (if you are a company); (ii) you and your principals, licensors and sublicensors (if you are an agent acting on behalf of another person or entity); (iii) you and your partners (if you are a partnership); and (iv) you and your agents, licensees, sublicensees and assigns (if you are the author of the Submission).
The competition is open to finished feature scripts in the romantic comedy genre.

Are Your Submission Materials Complete?
Companies will only consider Submissions from submitter(s) who have an active free HUSSLUP membership. Companies will only consider complete Submissions that include ALL of the following materials. You must submit all of these materials together. You cannot edit, amend, or resubmit your Submission.
1. Completed feature script in the romantic comedy genre
2. Logline that describes the project
3. 350-word synopsis of the project
4. HUSSLUP profile link
5. Contact information
6. Signed release form

Did You Originate the Submission?
Companies will only accept Submissions in written form. Your Submission is only being considered at Your request, and You hereby guarantee that You are the sole originator of all contents of the Submission and that You have the sole and exclusive legal right and authority to submit it to Companies for consideration.

Not Previously Shopped
Your script submitted to the competition must NOT have been optioned, purchased or produced prior to submission.

Disclosure to Companies
You agree that Companies may discuss Your Submission with employees, and possibly others, to evaluate its usefulness to Companies. You agree that neither Your submission
of ideas or materials, nor Companies’ consideration of your Submission, creates any confidential relationship between You and Companies.

No Implied Contract
You agree that no contract or obligation of any kind is assumed by Companies or may be implied against Companies by reason of Companies’ review of Your Submission and/or any discussions or negotiations Companies may have concerning Your Submission. Specifically, it is understood that neither Your submission of the Submission to Companies, nor Companies’ review of the Submission so submitted, constitutes or creates an implied-in-fact or implied-in-law contract, even if there exists an industry custom to the contrary. You acknowledge and agree that Your entitlement to any compensation, credit, or any other benefit is subject to Companies and You entering into a written contract (separate from this Agreement) signed by both parties related to Companies' use of Your Submission or any portion thereof.

What Claims Are Renounced?
You understand that Companies have in the past explored, or may in the present or future explore, films and ideas generated by employees or other outside sources that resemble Your Submission. You understand that it is not uncommon for more than one individual or company to originate substantially similar ideas, independently. You hereby release Companies from any and all claims, demands and liabilities of every kind whatsoever, known and unknown, that may arise in relation to Your submission of the Submission including, without limitation, any claim that Companies have used or appropriated any materials from the Submission.

What Claims Are Not Renounced?
The waiver and release of claims in this Agreement does not apply to claims for copyright infringement under United States copyright law.

Submission Not Returned
Companies are not obligated to return Your Submission to You or liable to You should the Submission be lost, stolen or destroyed. You should keep a copy of any materials You submit to Companies. Do not submit any materials to Companies that You consider irreplaceable.

Governing Law, Jurisdiction and Venue
The validity, construction and performance of this Agreement and any disputes arising out of or in connection with the same shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to the conflicts of law principles thereof. By signing this Agreement, you agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts of Los Angeles County and you waive any objection to proceedings in such courts on the grounds of venue or on the grounds that proceedings have been brought in an inconvenient forum.

Entire Agreement
This Agreement sets forth the entire and final agreement and understanding of You and
Companies, and supersedes any and all prior and contemporaneous representations, negotiations, promises, understandings or agreements, whether oral or written, between You and Companies with respect to the subject matter hereof.

No Prejudice
Companies’ consideration of Your Submission or decision to negotiate a purchase of Your Submission does not waive Companies' right to contest Your copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights. Nothing in this Agreement, nor Your submission of the Submission to Companies, shall be deemed to place Companies in any different position from any other member of the public with respect to the material submitted.

Severability
If any portion of this Agreement is held by a court or arbitrator of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable or invalid, such provision or provisions shall be construed by the appropriate judicial body by limiting and reducing it or them but only to the extent necessary to conform to legal requirements, or, if incapable of such construction, shall be stricken entirely and the balance shall continue in full force and effect. Modification
The above conditions may not be changed or waived except in writing and signed by an authorized executive of Companies.

Blanket Release Form
Acceptance of this Agreement will hereby apply to all current as well as future Submissions and in exchange for Companies’ willingness to consider this current Submission, You also agree that this Agreement applies to any Submissions previously submitted by You to Companies regardless of whether the previous Submission was submitted under a prior version of this Agreement or without any Agreement at all.
