Founded in 2017, the Hanoi International Queer Film Week (HIQFW) has become an annual film festival dedicated to showcasing cinematic works that explore stories, themes, and characters from the queer community, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other minority sexuality groups.

As the first and only legally recognized queer film festival in Vietnam, HIQFW became a member of the Asia Pacific Queer Film Festival Alliance in 2017, following its inaugural year.

In 2019, the Hanoi International Queer Film Week (HIQFW) launched the Queer’s New Wave Award to honor exceptional queer films and filmmakers from around the globe. The award aims not only to build connections within the filmmaking community but also to support the growth and evolution of queer cinema, both in Vietnam and internationally.

This year, the awards feature six categories:

Best Picture
Best Documentary
Best Cinematography
Best Director
