The Human Environment Care Film Festival (HECFF) – 2026 Edition

The Human Environment Care Film Festival (HECFF) is Canada’s premier cultural event dedicated to exploring the vital connections between Human–Environment Care, Human Rights, and Environmental Protection through the art of film.

Since its founding, HECFF has provided an international platform for filmmakers and artists whose works inspire reflection, empathy, and action toward a more humane and sustainable world.

Special Section (2026): Dance and Joy

Through FilmFreeway, we invite submissions from Filmmakers and Animators whose works explore the above themes and this year’s special focus, Dance and Joy — celebrating movement, happiness, resilience, and the shared human spirit.
As an art-driven festival, HECFF values creativity, experimentation, and originality in cinematic storytelling.

HECFF Aims To:

• Promote dialogue and raise awareness about Human–Environment Care, Human Rights, and Environmental Issues through powerful and creative film expression.
• Showcase and support Canadian and International artists devoted to humanistic and environmental concerns.
• Encourage intercultural exchange and artistic collaboration among creators around the world.

Prizes and Awards – HECFF 2026

Each year, the Human Environment Care Film Festival (HECFF) honors outstanding works that reflect creativity, depth, and a strong human–environment message.
All winning films receive the HECFF Trophy and an Official Winner Certificate.

Recognizing a filmmaker’s unique visual style or perspective on human–environment issues.

Special Section 2026: Dance and Joy

Best Film on Dance
Awarded to the film that best captures the art of movement, rhythm, and expression through dance.

Best Film on Joy
Celebrating films that portray happiness, resilience, and the spirit of human joy in creative and moving ways.

Rules & Regulations

1. General Information

All selected films will automatically be considered for competition.

Our festival has no age limit, and we welcome festival-related films from all ages, backgrounds, and races.

Submissions are accepted exclusively through FilmFreeway.

2. Eligibility

To submit a film, you must have created the project yourself, own the rights, or have obtained permission from the rights holder to submit it to us.

We accept Canadian and International films (short and feature-length).

Short films: must not exceed 30 minutes in total runtime (including credits). There is no minimum length requirement.

Feature-length films: (over 30 minutes) are eligible for the Main Competition Section.

Non-English language films must include English subtitles.

3. Selection & Notification

Filmmakers will be notified of the selection results by August 30, 2025, via email.

All correspondence will be conducted by email; no information will be provided over the phone.

4. Materials Required Upon Selection
If your film is selected, you must provide the following:

High-resolution stills and a film poster

A short synopsis and full credits

A film trailer (if available)

Press or promotional materials upon request

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide individualized feedback to filmmakers.

 Terms and Conditions

By submitting a film to the Festival, the filmmaker confirms that they own the rights or have secured all necessary permissions for its submission and public screening.

Selected filmmakers will receive an official notification by email.

The filmmaker retains all rights to their film. However, by submitting, the filmmaker grants the Festival a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

Download and screen the film once during the official festival dates (after acceptance on FilmFreeway).

Use provided materials (stills, posters, trailers, and up to two minutes of footage) for promotional, archival, and documentation purposes.

The legal responsibility for the film remains entirely with the submitter. The Festival assumes no liability for copyright infringement or other legal issues related to the film.
