Golda Kesse is a British-Ghanaian filmmaker, actor, and writer whose work explores themes of identity, cultural heritage, and the unseen connections between past and present. Born and raised in London, she has always been drawn to the duality of existing between two worlds—modern British life and the deep ancestral ties of her West African heritage.
With a background in fine art, Golda’s creative foundation was built on storytelling through different mediums before finding her voice in film. Like Steve McQueen, whose transition from artist to filmmaker allowed him to craft deeply resonant narratives, Golda’s shift into filmmaking was a natural evolution—one driven by a desire to tell nuanced, character-focused stories that explore themes of heritage, self-discovery, and belonging.
Her background in film and TV includes working in research and development for Idris Elba’s production company, where she honed her storytelling instincts and industry knowledge. As an actor, she has brought nuanced performances to the screen, but it was her passion for storytelling that led her behind the camera.
Her directorial debut, Adinkra, is a deeply personal project blending gritty realism with a sense of discovery inspired by films like Attack the Block, Black Panther, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Through a fusion of West African proverbs, contemporary storytelling, and genre-driven narratives, Golda’s work seeks to reclaim untold African stories for a global audience.
She is committed to telling bold, character-driven stories that bridge tradition and modernity, offering fresh perspectives on identity, legacy, and belonging.
