The IAPD/IPRA Joint Editorial Committee invites you to show off your agency and its visual images with "Give Us Your Best Shot," a photo contest sponsored by the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA).
There is a limit of five (5) entries per category, per photographer. One photographer could submit up to 20 photos (5 in each category). First, Second, and Third Place finishers will receive a framed copy of their photo. Winning entries will be published in Illinois Parks & Recreation magazine and announced at the IAPD/IPRA 2026 Soaring to New Heights Conference. Photographs will be judged on the basis of exposure, clarity/focus, subject matter relative to category.

𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗺𝗶𝗱-𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿.

The top three winners in each category will have their images professionally framed, and will be recognized at the Soaring to New Heights Conference and in Illinois Parks and Recreation magazine.

𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 (𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿): 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆, 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲, 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼.

Four categories for entry:

𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆: special events, outdoor recreation, gatherings, playground and park facility usage

𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀: Organized team or individual sports (baseball, basketball, etc.) and competitive play (pickleball, marathons, dodge ball, etc.)

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲: Deer, birds, butterflies, etc. captured in natural environments.

𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲/𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀: Flowers, sunsets, lakes, buildings, etc. not featuring people/animals.

𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀:

• You must be at least 18 years of age to enter.

• All entries must have been photographed at Illinois park or recreation agencies.

• There is a limit of five (5) entries per category.

• You must have obtained all model releases for your photos. By entering the contest, you are assuring the IAPD and IPRA that you have obtained all model releases necessary to publish the image in all forms for commercial and non-commercial purposes. By entering, you also warrant to the IAPD and IPRA that 1) you are the sole copyright holder of the image, 2) the image is not otherwise commercially available for sale, and 3) the image does not violate or infringe upon the copyright, trademark, rights of publicity, privacy, or any other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity.

• All photographs become the property of IAPD and IPRA. By virtue of their entry, contestants irrevocably agree that IAPD and IPRA may adapt, edit, and/or modify their photographs in any way and may also publish or otherwise use their photographs for promotion of Illinois Parks & Recreation magazine and for other publications; displays; videos; the IAPD and IPRA websites; and as part of a CD of commercial photography with sales benefiting the IAPD/IPRA; and for any other editorial, trade, advertising, commercial or other purposes without your prior approval or inspection and also without compensation, right to royalties, or any other consideration. You also agree to fully and forever release, discharge, indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the IAPD and IPRA and each of their independent contractors, officers, agents, servants and employees, from any and all claims arising out of the publication or use of the photograph by the IAPD or the IPRA as described in these rules. A photo credit will be given in all cases of publication by the IAPD and IPRA.
