The Georgetown Film Festival is a platform dedicated to elevating authentic Guyanese and Caribbean storytelling. Through curated screenings, filmmaker engagement and community dialogue, we create space for stories that reflect who we are. At its core, the festival is about building connection, identity and a lasting film culture in Guyana. We do monthly in-person screenings of films year round and our in-person film festival is an annual three-day event in the month of August.

1. Eligibility

Films must have been completed on or after January 2024.
Submissions are strictly limited to films from the Caribbean and its diaspora.
This includes:
Films made by Caribbean filmmakers
Films that explore Caribbean stories, themes, or identities
All genres are accepted, including documentary, narrative, experimental and animation.
Non-English films must include English subtitles.
Multiple submissions are allowed.

2. Submission Guidelines

All submissions must be made via FilmFreeway.
Films must be submitted as online screeners.
No submission fees are required.
The festival reserves the right to determine eligibility and place films in appropriate categories.

3. Screening Format

Accepted films must be delivered in MP4 or MOV format.
Films must be provided in high-quality resolution suitable for public exhibition.
Screenings are in-person only.

4. Festival Dates

The festival will take place August 21st – 23rd 2026.
Selected filmmakers will be notified one month in advance.

Selection Process
Films are reviewed by a selection committee.
Due to volume, individual feedback will not be provided.
All selection decisions are final.

Awards will be decided by a jury and include:
Best Feature Documentary
Best Short Documentary
Best Feature Film (Fiction)
Best Short (Fiction)
Audience Choice Awards
