Open to all, from novices to pros, the frenzy promises accolades for every skill level. The "best film" earns a coveted screening at the prestigious 2024 North Bellarine Film Festival.

Prepare for the frenzy with pre-event workshops led by industry pros.

Then, on the Friday night opening event discover the secret criteria: a key prop, a crucial line of dialogue, and a designated Geelong location, igniting your imagination.

Afterward, revel in post-event screenings and a glamorous awards gala, where industry luminaries bestow laurels upon winners in various categories, from Best Film to Most Popular Film.

This inaugural event, made possible by the generous support of the City of Greater Geelong, invites storytellers of all ages to embark on a cinematic journey.

48 Hour Film Making Competition Rules:

Registration: Crews must register for entry at www.filmfreeway.com before midnight Sunday 15 September 2024.

Crew Formation: Crews can consist of as many members as they wish. Each crew must designate a team leader for communication and coordination purposes.

Registration: All participating crews must register in advance of the competition deadline.

Late entries will not be accepted.

Launch Event: The 48 Hour Film Frenzy will commence with a launch event where crews will be briefed on the film’s required elements, and rules. Attendance is mandatory for all team leaders.

Duration: Filmmaking must take place within a consecutive 48-hour period, starting from the moment the required elements are revealed.

Required Elements: Crews will be provided with 3 x specific criteria that must be incorporated into their films. This typically includes a prop, a line of dialogue, and a designated location.

Original Content: All films must be original creations. The use of copyrighted material without proper authorisation is strictly prohibited. Any film using copyright material will be disqualified.

Technical Specifications: Films must be between 4 and 7 minutes in duration and provided in HD at 1920x1080 HD MP4 format with stereo soundtrack. Non-compliance may result in disqualification/and or not be shown at screening.

Submission Deadline: Completed films must be submitted by 8pm Sunday 13 October, 2024 via Film Freeway (www.filmfreeway.com). Late submissions will not be considered for judging.

Credits: Each film must include proper credits acknowledging all team members and contributors.

Film Permits: The 48 Hour Film Frenzy will provide a list of ‘permitted’ public filming locations in the lead-up to the event weekend. If you require a specific location outside of this provided list you must engage with the relevant local council to seek a permit. Drones: It is a requirement if a drone shot is to be filmed in a public place a relevant permit is sought through the local council filming is due to take place in. Content Restrictions: Films must adhere to standards of decency and respect. Content containing nudity, hate speech, or explicit violence will be disqualified.

Judging: A panel of judges will evaluate the films based on criteria such as creativity, execution, storytelling, and required elements.

Awards: Awards will be presented in various categories, including Best overall film, Best amateur film, Best high-school film, Best University film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best lead actor/actress, Best script, Audience choice, Judges special mention.

Screening: All submitted films will be screened publicly at a designated event, allowing participants and the community to view and celebrate the completed works.
Rights: Participants retain ownership of their films but grant the competition organisers the right to screen and promote the films for non-commercial purposes for 2 (two) years after the event.

Code of Conduct: Participants are expected to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully throughout the competition. Any form of misconduct may result in disqualification.

Disqualification: The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any team found to be in violation of the rules or engaged in unethical behaviour.

Finality of Decisions: All decisions made by the competition organisers and judges are final and binding.

By participating in the 48-hour film making competition, participants agree to abide by these rules and regulations.
