THE LEGACY & EVOLUTION

Building upon the prestigious legacy of the Global University Film Awards (GUFA)—widely recognized as the "University Oscars"—the School of Creative Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is proud to present its next iteration: Future Film Fest 2026 (3F 2026).
While GUFA previously celebrated the sheer scale of global student filmmaking with over 2,500 submissions from 104 countries, 3F 2026 represents a strategic pivot toward the future of the medium. We are moving from a platform of mass participation to an elite experimental field where traditional cinematic values meet the frontiers of AI-generated content and Virtual Production.

CURATORIAL VISION: WHY 3F?

The "3F" stands for Future Film Fest, but it also signifies our focus on Future-thinking Creators. Cinema is entering a profound paradigm shift. 3F 2026 explores the "narrative tension" that arises when classical cinematic language intersects with algorithmic generation. Our mission is to identify and support filmmakers who navigate cutting-edge tools—including Generative AI—while maintaining profound creative intent and humanistic care.

PROGRAMME ARCHITECTURE

For its 2026 edition, 3F features:

Global Competition: Narrative & AI Shorts (Institutional Nomination Required) — A talent-scouting program targeting elite filmmakers from 50+ of the world’s leading film schools, featuring two flagship categories with a combined prize pool of USD 66,000, recognizing excellence in both traditional storytelling and innovative AI workflows.

AI Shorts (Open Category) — Open to AI creators under 30, with a total prize pool of USD 8,000.

3F 2026 strives to:
- Recognize emerging filmmakers who are redefining the boundaries of the moving image.
