𝓕𝓻𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽 𝓝𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽𝓼 - 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓾𝓵𝓽𝓲𝓶𝓪𝓽𝓮 𝓯𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓲𝓿𝓪𝓵 𝓸𝓯 𝓯𝓮𝓪𝓻 is an Austrian horror film festival founded by Heinz Olbrich, whose program includes long and short films, professional productions and home movies as well as German and 🗺️ international 🗺️films. In 2013, films from more than 30 countries had been screened – often in the presence of directors and performers.
One of the organizers’ principle is ❗not to reject any film because of his or her own taste❗ but to offer an opportunity to show all productions that fit into the program of the festival.
From 2005 to 2013, the event was held at five different locations and a total of over 300 films were listed. Since 2006, the Silver Hand has been awarded in several categories among the films participating in the competition.

Fees apply only to submissions for the competition. Non-competition entries are free of charge.
Entries are to be submitted by September 15, 2021:
There is no guarantee that the film will be screened. Even paying the submission fee does not guarantee that the film will be shown at the Fright Nights Film Festival. The organizers will select the short and feature-length films that will ultimately be screened at the festival from all entries submitted.
Films that have already been submitted to a previous Fright Nights Film Festival will not be accepted.
In mid September, the nominations will be finalized and the Fright Nights 2021 program will be published on our website. All selected films will automatically participate in the competition. There is no additional fee for the actual screening. Nominations of the competition films and the program of out-of-competition entries will be notified at this time. Screening versions must be submitted to the Hollywood Megaplex in DCP format by Sept. 15, 2021.
𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕 𝑹𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑺𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏:
The largest screen at Hollywood Megaplex PlusCity measures 217 square feet. If the resolution of the screening does not meet these requirements, we may have to remove the film from the program or even from the nomination. Therefore, only films whose screening version complies with the following format will be accepted:
By submitting the submission form, you explicitly declare that you have all necessary rights to distribute and submit the film to festivals. All content of the film – image, sound as well as music – must be created or licensed by the submitter. In case of doubt, licenses must be presented upon request.
The entrant expressly agrees that the film may be shown at the festival and used for promotional purposes in connection with the festival. This includes, among other things, the distribution of the film to all jury members, the use of excerpts for advertising clips and other uses within the framework of the festival. In addition, the submitter agrees that the film may be shown at events after the festival.
If the film is not recorded in German or English, we require English subtitles.
Submitted films must not have undergone commercial exploitation – for example, an official theatrical release and a DVD and Blu-ray release – by the time of the festival. „Private“ screenings such as premieres, festival participations, and self-distributed DVDs and Blu-rays are exempt from this restriction.
The Silver Hand is awarded in the following categories:
Best Feature Film (will be included in the regular program of the Hollywood Megaplex)
Best Short Film
Best Mutilation Scene ➤ NEW since 2021
The award ceremony will take place at the end of the festival, the exact date will be announced as soon as possible.
Awards will only be given to filmmakers who are present at the awards ceremony. If it is not possible for the entrant to be present at the award ceremony, the Silver Hand can also be received by a representative.
If an award winner or substitute is not present at the awards ceremony, the film will be dropped from the competition and the Silver Hand will be awarded to the runner-up.
Only films received in time will be considered and included in the program!
