Flora Martyr is a Sheffield based director and animator, practising in rotoscope animation and experimental moving image work. Her films are deeply personal and often explore themes of mental health drawing from her own experiences. She leans heavily on mixed media throughout her work, regularly combining analogue with digital techniques.
Her films have been screened at various festivals, including the Cardiff Animation Festival, Encounters Short Film Festival and Flatpack Film Festival, as well as being broadcast on the Sky Arts channel. Her previous film ‘Bear’ (2022) garnered the 'Northern Spirit' award at the BIFA qualifying Spirit of Independence Film Festival. Alongside her own practise, other credits include working as an animator on Richard Linklater’s animated feature ‘Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood’ (2022) as well as an editor on the animated CITV series ‘The Rubbish World of Dave Spud’ (2024).
She has recently finished her latest short animation, ‘I Wish I Was There’ (2025), which explores themes of anxiety and escape. She is now developing her debut animated feature.
