SUBMISSION REGULATIONS FOR Films That Inspire (Melbourne)
THESE REGULATIONS GOVERN THE SUBMISSION OF ALL FILMS FOR CONSIDERATION FOR THE FESTIVAL AND YOU (“YOU” OR “SUBMITTER”) ARE REQUIRED TO READ THE FOLLOWING REGULATIONS CAREFULLY TO CONFIRM YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE SAME PRIOR TO SUBMISSION OF ANY FILMS. PLEASE NOTE THAT FTI RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ALTER THESE REGULATIONS WITHOUT NOTICE.

Submitted Films must be either uploaded directly to the FilmFreeway website via the FilmFreeway Secure Online Screener system. Alternatively, a screener can be supplied via a password-protected Vimeo link or unlisted YouTube link entered directly into the FilmFreeway online application form. If the password changes at any point between the submission and the festival, the Submitter must inform FIA via email ASAP; Films that are submitted with incorrect or outdated passwords attached cannot be considered for the festival and any and all fees paid will be forfeited.
2. Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for consideration, all Films must meet the following requirements:
Films must be in their original language with English subtitles if the original language is not English.
Please note, the Festival reserves the right to program all Films that are entered into the 2020 Festival.
3. Authorised Use and Inclusion of Materials
It is the sole responsibility of the Submitter to:
secure permission from the rights holders of any and all copyrighted and/or trademarked content or materials included within the Film;
and to clear all content of the Film from any and all actual or potential legal claims and issues, including, without limitation, claims based upon theories of libel, defamation, invasion of privacy, violation of rights of publicity, theft of trade secrets, breach of confidence, breach of confidential relationship, and breach of express or implied contract (“Third Party Claim/s”).
FTI will not be held responsible for any unauthorised inclusion of:
any copyrighted and/or trademarked content or materials within or relating to the submitted Project, including any content or materials that are or may become the basis for any third party claims for copyright infringement and/or trademark infringement, trademark dilution, or unfair competition;
any unauthorised inclusion of any content or materials within or relating to the submitted Film that are or may be the basis for any Third Party Claim/s or others.
Any Film that includes any unauthorised inclusion of materials as set out above, FIA will not advance festival consideration of the Film, and withholds the right to withdraw the Film from confirmed programming, in which case any and all fees paid prior will be forfeited.
All applicants will be notified of an outcome by end of March 2020. Festival programmers select and invite all Films presented at FIA. If the Submitter’s contact details change during the submissions period, you must inform FIA at Info@starmaxfilms.com so records can be updated.
If the Film is selected to screen at FTI 2020, it must be made available in one of the following formats, received by FTI no later than COB 10 March 2020:
DCP (DCI Compliant)
360-degree Video for playback through Gear VR
If the Film is selected to screen at FIA 2020, the Submitter must provide a minimum of three (3) digital copies of stills from the Film via email or WeTransfer (minimum specification of images as 300dpi JPGs or JPEGs only). Electronic Press Kits (EPKs), digital posters, Director headshots, and social media handles may also be supplied to FTI, but are not mandatory. Please note FTI may supply these materials to third parties for the purpose of editorial coverage of FTI. These materials may also be used for the FTI publicly available print publications and print products as well as online media (FTI website/s, FTI mobile application/s, and FTI social media channels), where they will remain available without any time or territorial restrictions.
Exhibition materials, including but not limited to Film prints or DCPs, of officially selected Films will be insured by FTI for the duration of the Film’s stay in Australia and during transit to the Festival.
FTI abides not to hold any more than four (4) screenings of any submitted Film (excluding VR).
FTI selection decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. We do not provide critical analysis or feedback.
5. Use of Content
If your film is accepted we will be screening it at the Alex Theatre cinema on 20/03/2020.
By submitting your film to the Films That Inspire festival, you are giving to Films That Inspire full permission and rights to view, publicly screen, upload, transfer and edit your film in any way we choose and for all our marketing and film festival purposes. You are agreeing that you are the owner of the full film (Audio and visual) and have all the legal rights to submit this film to us. You agree to take all legal responsibility should you not have the full rights to all the audio and visual footage submitted. You understand you will not be compensated for how we choose to use the film.
6. Screening Fees
Please note that MIFF will not pay any rental or screening fees for submitted Films. If filmmakers or representatives of filmmakers are using a third-party distribution or sales agency to send a Film to FTI, filmmakers are responsible for any fees the third-party may charge and FTI shall have no liability in respect to such fees.
All correspondence from FTI regarding FilmFreeway submissions will be sent via FilmFreeway – although we take every precaution to ensure that messages are also sent to the submission contact’s email address, we disavow any responsibility for messages not delivered to the email address supplied. FTI recommends Submitters regularly log-in to FilmFreeway to ensure that the submission has been completed, including but not limited to payments and screener uploads, and that the Film has been placed ‘In Consideration’ within two weeks of submitting.
