The Festival is held as part of the Day of Architecture, both of them celebrate World Architecture Day. Taking place each October in Prague and across the Czech and Slovak Republic, the festival has become an independent platform for discussions on architecture and urbanism based on screening documentaries, experimental as well as feature films. Its aim is to promote contemporary architectural approaches among the general public and present architecture as a significant part of our everyday life that requires appreciation and care. Moreover, it is important to introduce architecture from different viewpoints such as the artistic, social or environmental, and thus stimulate an interdisciplinary debate on architecture and the cooperation possibilities with other disciplines. A significant part of the festival’s activities is the initiation of short films on architecture by young Czech filmmakers that are introduced as part of the main programme of the festival.

Czech Film and Architecture festival is organized by KRUH (Circle), a civic association, which was founded in 2001 by a group of architecture students at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and it is the only NGO, which operates professionally and continually within the architecture field nowadays. Focus of our activities lies in an ongoing cycle of lectures on architecture held by leading Czech and foreign architects and architecture critics. In addition to that, we have organized excursions to contemporary architectural realisations and film festivals.

Submitted movies must relate to the topics of architecture, urban planning or design.

  • Fantastic festival!! I participated for the third time and this time, in 2023, had the chance to actually visit the festival in person. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the fantastic and very hospitable festival crew. I'll be more than happy to return sometime in the future.
