Now celebrating 20 years of serving Florida's independent short filmmakers!

Join us each month at the Orlando Museum of Art!
(Filmmakers: We can only accept submissions from FLORIDA FILMMAKERS at this time.)

Please note: The information in the Dates & Deadlines box to the right DO NOT APPLY to our screenings. FilmSlam is open for submissions YEAR ROUND!

We will email you directly if your film is selected during a given month. If your film is not set for one month, it will be in consideration for future months during 2024.

We began as a project of the University of Central Florida's Downtown Media Arts Center (DMAC) in 2004. When the DMAC, now CityArts, closed in 2006, our venue changed to Enzian Theater, where we held screenings until October 2019. Our newest chapter of FilmSlam history continues at the Truist Theater inside the beautiful Orlando Museum of Art! Come see us!

2024 MONTHLY SCREENING DATES (all shows begin at 2 pm)

[Screening dates coming soon!]

FilmSlam is a Central Florida-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that hosts a monthly, in-person screening series. It has been a favorite of Florida's independent filmmakers since 2004 and continues to be a collaborative networking community for independent filmmakers of all skill levels throughout Florida!

Each screening runs for 60+ minutes and is followed by a live-streamed Q&A with the crew and cast of each film!

After every screening, filmmakers, cast, crew, and indie cinephiles discuss the films they just watched, share details about current projects, and more!

Have a question about a film in the line-up? Ask one of the filmmakers! We're sure they would appreciate your feedback!

Be sure to follow us on social media! @TheFIlmSlam #FilmSlam

Our audience will choose their Top 3 films during each screening via ballot vote in person.

Each month's Top 3 films will be posted online on FilmSlam's Official website (www.thefilmslam.org) and across our social media channels shortly after each screening. [Please note: Our new website, www.thefilmslam.org, is currently under construction. Pardon our digital dust!)

Monthly FilmSlam Audience Award winners win a guaranteed Central Florida Film Festival screening!

SUBMISSIONS
There is NO submission fee, filmmakers! Please help keep us fee-free by purchasing a ticket to each month's screening and inviting your friends, family, crews, and casts!

FilmSlam's submission period is open YEAR-ROUND to all Florida Filmmakers. Film students are always welcome to submit their work for screening consideration.

All FilmSlam screenings are unrated (NR) and open to all genres of short films 20 minutes and under. Films slightly over 20 minutes may be programmed at the discretion of our FilmSlam programmers.

We may also feature themed screening programs! Past themed months have included FemmeSlam (featuring filmmakers who happen to be female), #OrlandoUnited/PrideSlam (featuring films by LGBTQ+ filmmakers and those celebrating Orlando in a post-Pulse world), and HorrorSlam (featuring an all-horror, suspense, and sci-fi lineup).

REQUIREMENTS
- A logline or up to 30-word, non-spoiler-y synopsis of your film.
- One (1) horizontal promotional still from your film. Please email images to jen@thefilmslam.com. (No poster art or behind-the-scenes photos, please.)

SCHEDULING
FilmSlam hosts 12 screenings a year at the Orlando Museum of Art. Each film accepted into FilmSlam will be allowed one (1) complimentary admission.

FilmSlam is as independent as the productions we screen (only two of us are running the show!), so please help keep us going by inviting your crews, casts, friends, and family to your screening, then come back for more!

Admission to each screening is $11 per person in advance or $12 at the door.

    January 2024
  • Huge screen and good sound quality. It was a joy to see the films at Film Slam. The Q&A by Jen after the screening was also a great way to learn more about the film makers.

    January 2024
  • Don't know what happened with this festival. They never reply to my emails so I don't know that my film was even shown. The links they sent were wrong, the dates in the email were from 2020. Was is held at the OMA like it says it was or at Enzian like the link to get tickets said?

    Response from festival:

Hi Manuela! There's been a mix-up between our (Central Florida based) FilmSlam, established in 2004, and Enzian Theater's student-focused 'film slam' event initiated in 2020. Unfortunately, this confusion is intentional on Enzian's part.

We parted ways with Enzian in October 2019 after a 13-year partnership, during which Enzian attempted to launch their own student-focused 'film slam' event while appropriating our event blueprint and history.

Despite our imperfections and ever-changing work schedules, we strive for timely communication. We appreciate your support as filmmakers sustaining your original FilmSlam.

Quite simply, without you, there's no us.

    Our official sites are:

Event tickets are only available at our website or via filmslam.eventbrite.com.

Our profound apologies for any past shortcomings, Manuela. We're working hard to keep your nearly 20-year FilmSlam alive, I promise. Please email me anytime at jen[at]thefilmslam[dot]com.
