Now in its 20th year, Film Independent Future Filmmakers brings to the big screen the best films made by emerging young filmmakers from across the country and around the globe. The showcase is a curated program of short films made by high school students. The films are selected by a committee of professional filmmakers as well as youth curators from Los Angeles. As part of our mission we’re committed to cultivating a new generation of creators, storytellers, and audiences of independent film. We work to connect media professionals, teachers, and youth creators, and bring them together at Film Independent Future Filmmakers in Los Angeles for a day of screenings, mentorships, and community.

  • Thank you for selecting of "My Day in Kyiv in Summer 2022" to your festival programme! We are so far from Los-Angeles and weren't able to visit the event, but watched all festivals films on youtube - thank you, Sarah! Also it was interesting to read about other participants on the Film Independent blog. Thank you for your support of Ukraine!

We are grateful for the opportunity that our youth filmmakers had when selected for the Film Independent Future Filmmakers. We were impressed by the opportunities they provided young people to make the most of this experience. We look forward to submitting films from our 2020 Youth Media Academy participants so that they can potentially have the same experience.
