On Saturday October 5th 2024, the 3rd annual Festival of Darkness will showcase the freshest of independent dark, thriller, horror, scifi and fantasy short films from local and international filmmakers. The festival will feature approximately 90 minutes of shorts ranging from experimental student projects to more sophisticated mini features.

The Festival of Darkness is hosted at The Narthex, a reanimated historic 1900's church located within the East Canfield neighborhood of Detroit. Seating will include pew benches and individual seats for up to 200 patrons. A concession stand will be present and staffed parking is available.

GIVING BACK - Half of the admission sales will benefit New Path Villages, a Detroit-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization creating self-managed communities of cost-effective tiny homes for people in need of housing. Housing is a basic human need that everyone deserves and New Path Villages seeks to bridge the often insurmountable gap between the street and conventional housing with an inclusive tiny home emergency shelter option.

Admission, schedule and showtime/s will be released on the official website by September 1st. Join our newsletter there to be notified or find/follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to get the latest updates as they arise.

We were very glad to have played at this festival, it was perfect for our little film! We put considerable effort into supporting the festival on social media but as we are UK-based we couldn't personally attend. It would be great to hear how it went! Thanks for having us!

  • I was so proud to be featured in this festival. They did a great job making all filmmakers feel special, and their promotional efforts were phenomenal. As a marketer, I can see the challenges inherent in putting on a festival like this, but between the cool venue and the wide selection of films, it seems like this was in every way a success. "Barbarian" has made me somewhat less excited about Detroit, but the Festival is a reason I may visit there in the future.
