The Festival of Animated Objects (FAO) is a biennial festival sponsored by the non-profit group Calgary Animated Objects Society (CAOS) that promotes the arts of puppetry, mask, and animated objects.
The FAO features high calibre local, national, and international artists working in the realm of animated objects. Programming includes live performances, screenings, lectures, workshops, and exhibitions for all ages, and adult audiences.

More than just puppetry, the FAO features a myriad of local, national, and international artists working in the broader realm of animated objects, including new media artist and youth leader Archer Pechawis, musician and animator Chad VanGaalen, Team America World Police puppeteers the Chiodo Bros., comedian Cory Mack, Faustwork Mask Theatre, sideshow hucksters Ghostwriter Theatre, puppet-maker and body-painter Jacquie Paul, hip-hop artist and youth leader Jerilynn Webster, rocker and artist Kara Keith, traditional Aboriginal mask and cultural performers 'Ksan Performing Arts, shadow puppeteer Lynn Jeffries, Cirque du Soleil clown Mooky Cornish, hysterical satirist Paul Zaloom, multi-media puppeteers Red Smarteez Marionettes, internationally celebrated auteur Ronnie Burkett, scandalous sasspots Small Brown Package Theatre, and emerging Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal youth theatre troupe Young Spirit Voices!
Fun, exotic and interactive, the FAO turns on the heat and adds sizzle to downtown with events for adult and family audiences.
Shorts involving animated objects are eligible. Animated objects includes, but is in no way limited to: puppets, masks, stop-motion, hand drawn animation, and encompasses a myriad of other expressions of animated objects. Digital and/or computer generated animation is NOT ELIGIBLE. If your film is digital animation, do not submit it.
