San Giovanni International Film Festival is hosted by Chez Thésse, Rosaspina, and Artefix, cultural associations all operating in the independent film industry, in synergy with the Teatro San Giovanni Battista in Genoa. These three organizations are joined by other associations, bodies and sponsors.
Objectives:
This Festival aims to create a place where Cinema can be a source of interaction between young people. Somewhere they can meet, exchange ideas, and plan together, to increase film culture through interviews open to the public and to professionals in the field and where you can think of a solution to the social problems that plague society. All this by offering and promoting works with relevant artistic content, capable of developing critical awareness and contributing to the cultural growth of the young audience.

Il Festival Internazionale del Cinema di San Giovanni è organizzato dalle Associazioni culturali Chez Thésse, Rosaspina e Artefix, tutte operanti nel settore del Cinema indipendente, in sinergia con il Teatro San Giovanni Battista di Genova. A queste tre organizzazioni, si aggiungono altre associazioni, enti e sponsor.
Obiettivi:
Il Festival si prefigge l’obiettivo di creare un luogo dove il Cinema possa essere motivo di
interazione per i giovani, di incontro e scambio di idee e progettualità tra i partecipanti, di
accrescimento della propria cultura cinematografica attraverso interviste aperte al pubblico ai professionisti del settore e dove si possa pensare ad una risoluzione dei problemi sociali che attanagliano la società. Tutto ciò offrendo e promuovendo lavori con un contenuto artistico rilevante, capaci di sviluppare coscienza critica e contribuire alla crescita culturale del giovane pubblico.

Rules and terms:
1. Official categories:
A. Human: international short films category on fighting against racism;
B. Blue knot: international short films category on fighting against bullying;
C. Red shoes: international short films category on fighting
against violence against women;
D. Rainbow: international short films category on fighting against
homophobia;
E. Food: international short films category on fighting against eating disorders;
F. Art: international free-themed short films category (comedy, adventure,
thriller, Sci-Fi, romantic);
G. Cartoon: international animated short film free theme category (comedy,
adventure, thriller, Sci-Fi, romantic);
H. World Cartoon: international category of animated short films on the themes
described in categories A, B, C, D, E;
I. Open Cinema : International short films and documentaries category whose directors are 19 and over;
J. Documentaries: international documentaries category on social issues described in
categories A, B, C, D, E.
K. School together: international short films and documentaries category on social issues and free theme. It' s an out of competition category.
L. Long Cinema: International Feature Film Category.

Short films and documentaries must have a maximum duration of thirty minutes, including opening and closing credits. The formats useful for the projections are: MP4, AVI, and MPEG (with file shipment, only in case of admission to the official selection, via WeTransfer or other similar sites to the following e-mail address: chezthesse@gmail.com) or DVD (with the dispatch of the same to the following address: Via Priano 7 / 2, 16153, Sestri Ponente, Genoa, Italy ).
In categories A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and J are admitted, as participants, groups of students composed of Italian and foreign middle and high schools. Films must be created by students, in synergy with teachers and with workers in the film industry called to collaborate with institutes.
In K category, thirty works will be admitted in pre-selection; ten of them will be admitted in official selection. The partecipants are groups of students, as A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J categories ( MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL ).
In L category are admitted feature film and documentaries with a minimum duration of sixty minutes, including opening and ending credits. Format useful for the projections are the same for short films.

2. Selection of works
Conditions of admission to selection.
Festival will be in Genoa from the 4th to the 18th of May 2024. Short films and documentaries produced in 2022/2023 will be examined. Projects already selected before other festivals may be submitted. For pre-selection, the latest date of submission via FilmFreeway platform is 28th February 2024.
The registration must be made through this platform, entering all the required data and
proceeding with the upload of the film. For more information, write to chezthesse@gmail.com. The selection of the projects will take place at the discretion of the Artistic Direction, which will communicate the final results to the productions/distributions of the selected films no later than 21st March 2024.
Once communication has taken place, productions/distributions of the selected films have to send to chezthesse@gmail.com the following materials:

 Short film or documentary subtitled in English (sent via Wetransfer);
 Biography, filmography, and photo of the director;
 Director’s note of the opera;
 Full list of dialogues in English;
 No. 3 photos of the film;
 Poster;
 Trailer (maximum duration 90 seconds, 3 minutes for L category products ).

San Giovanni International Film Festival may transmit this material to third parties to promote the festival. The images and texts will also be used for the event publications (e. g. screenings programs) and on online media (social channels, online newspapers) where they will remain available without time or territorial limits.
Each work in competition at the end of the event will receive a certificate of
participation. Participants can use the Festival’s laurel on all promotional materials of the work (poster, trailer, etc.). The files and media for the screening must be sent until the 14th April 2024.
All works must have English and Italian subtitles.
The pre-selection copy must be identical to that of the official selection.

3. Costs and commitments
The Festival provides an entry fee of €20 for short film/ short documentaries pre-selection and a €35 entry fee for feature films and documentaries pre-selection ( L Category ). The cost of sending the physical copy of the film on DVD is recovered from the participants.
The festival ensures the physical copy of all films for the time of storage in competition.
San Giovanni International Film Festival will save a copy of each work in its archive, which will be used for study purposes, excluding any form of commercial use.

4. Hospitality
For the directors in competition will be provide hospitality (food and accommodation) from the day before the screening of their work to the day of the award ceremony.
As for the live-action short films, the productions may support the participation in presence of the protagonist of the selected work at the event , to which we will be happy to offer hospitality (also for him / her food and accommodation).

5. Final Provisions
Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of these regulations. It's responsibility of producers, distributors – or other parties presenting the film - to ensure that they are legitimately allowed to register the work at the Festival.
The Director of the Festival shall have the right to settle all cases not covered by this regulation and to derogate from this regulation in particular and justified cases.
Any dispute concerning the interpretation of the Rules of Procedure shall be subject to the original Italian Text.
The court of Genoa is competent for any dispute.

I cortometraggi ed i documentari brevi devono avere una durata massima di trenta minuti, titoli di testa e di coda compresi.

Alle categorie A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H e J sono ammessi, come partecipanti, collettivi di studenti
composti dalle scuole medie e superiori italiane e straniere (middle school e high school). Le pellicole devono essere create dagli studenti, in sinergia con gli insegnanti e con maestranze del settore cinematografico chiamate a collaborare con gli istituti.
Alla categoria K verranno ammessi trenta lavori alla fase di preselezione. Di questi trenta, dieci in selezione ufficiale. I partecipanti, anche in questa categoria, saranno gruppi di studenti, come alle condizioni sopra descritte per le altre categorie.
Nella categoria L sono ammessi lungometraggi e documentari con durata minima di sessanta minuti, con titoli di testa e di coda compresi nel minutaggio. I formati utili per la proiezione sono gli stessi dei cortometraggi.

2. Selezione delle opere
Condizioni di ammissione alla selezione.
Il Festival si terrà a Genova dal 4 al 18 Maggio 2024. Verranno prese in esame le opere prodotte negli anni 2022/2023. Possono essere presentate opere già selezionate precedentemente ad altri festival.
Per la preselezione, la data ultima di invio materiale tramite piattaforma FilmFreeway è il 28 Febbraio 2024. L’iscrizione dovrà avvenire obbligatoriamente tramite suddetta piattaforma, inserendo tutti i dati richiesti e procedendo all’upload del film.

La selezione delle opere avverrà a giudizio insindacabile della Direzione Artistica, che provvederà a comunicare gli esiti finali alle produzioni/distribuzioni dei film selezionati entro e non oltre il 21 Marzo 2024.
A comunicazione avvenuta, sarà premura delle produzioni/ distribuzioni dei film selezionati inviare a chezthesse@gmail.com i seguenti materiali:

- File dell’opera sottotitolata in inglese (invio tramite Wetransfer);
- Biografia, filmografia e foto del regista;
- Nota del regista sull’opera;
- Lista completa dei dialoghi in inglese;
- N. 3 foto del film;
- Locandina del film;
- Trailer dell’opera della durata massima di un minuto e mezzo nel caso di cortometraggi e documentari brevi, di tre minuti nel caso di lungometraggi e documentari ( L )

Il Festival Internazionale del Cinema di San Giovanni potrà trasmettere questo materiale a terzi, ai fini della promozione del festival.
Le immagini e i testi saranno utilizzati per anche per le pubblicazioni del festival (es. programmi proiezioni) e per i media online (canali social, testate giornalistiche on line) dove rimarranno disponibili senza limiti di tempo o territoriali.
Ogni opera in concorso al Festival riceverà un attestato di partecipazione al termine dell’evento. I partecipanti possono utilizzare il laurel del Festival su tutti i materiali promozionali dell’opera (locandina, trailer, etc.).
I file e i supporti per la proiezione dovranno essere inviati entro il 14 Aprile 2024.
Tutte le opere dovranno avere i sottotitoli in inglese e in italiano.
La copia della preselezione dovrà essere identica a quella della selezione ufficiale.

3. Costi ed impegni
Il Festival prevede un’ iscrizione di 25 euro per la pre-selezione di cortometraggi e documentari brevi ed un' iscrizione di 35 euro per la pre-selezione di lungometraggi e documentari ( Categoria L ). I costi della spedizione della copia fisica della pellicola in DVD sono a carico del partecipante.
Il Festival assicura la copia fisica della pellicola per il tempo di giacenza nell’evento.
Il Festival Internazionale del Cinema di San Giovanni salverà una copia di ogni opera nel proprio archivio, che verrà utilizzata per finalità di studio, escludendo qualsiasi forma di utilizzo commerciale.

4. Ospitalità
Per i registi in competizione è prevista l’ospitalità (vitto e alloggio) dal giorno precedente al giorno della proiezione della propria opera al giorno della premiazione. Per quanto riguarda i cortometraggi live action, le produzioni sono invitate a sostenere la partecipazione in presenza al Festival del protagonista dell’opera selezionata, al quale saremo lieti di offrire l’ospitalità (anche per esso vitto e alloggio).

5. Disposizioni Finali
La partecipazione al Festival comporta l’accettazione del presente regolamento.
É responsabilità di produttori, distributori o altri soggetti che presentano il film, garantire di essere legittimamente autorizzati ad iscrivere l’opera al festival. Per ogni eventuale contestazione sull’interpretazione del regolamento fa fede il testo originale in italiano.
Il direttore del Festival ha il diritto di dirimere tutti i casi non previsti dal presente regolamento, nonché di derogare al regolamento stesso in casi particolare e motivati.
Per ogni eventuale controversia è competente il Foro di Genova.
