Fernanda Oetling is a Mexican writer and filmmaker born and raised in Guadalajara. She has a deep passion for folktales and world mythologies; which captured her imagination from a young age and never let go. She's enthralled by history: its cyclical nature, who gets to speak and teach about it, and what it says about cultures and societies -plural.
Her work explores themes of growth, self-realization, perseverance against great odds, and finding community. It displays her interests and her calculated, researched, self-reflecting opinions. She aims to stimulate audiences to question what they have been told and strengthen their empathy. She believes in the power of writing and the medium of film to move people deeply, and views this as a responsibility.
In her spare time, she can be found at the movie theater or trying out sports in a quest to find one she actually enjoys. So far boxing and long walks are winning.
