Religious iconography is commonly used in horror films as easily comprehensible symbols to represent a societal status quo that is threatened by an external threat.

The Faith and Fear Horror Festival is looking for films that have religious faith and doubt as central elements to the films and not mere window dressing. It can be presented in a positive, negative, or ambivalent manner.

We have already booked some classics into the festival (the original Jigoku, Def By Temptation, and Eyes of Fire) and are looking to add some fresh voices to the program.

CONTENT:
Religious faith (not necessarily Christian nor any other major religion) must be a significant concern of one or more characters in the film. (Needless to say, actual horror/terror content is also essential.)

A film would not qualify simply because characters in it use crosses to ward off vampires any more than the use of garlic to do so would make it suitable for a festival with "Food and Horror" as its theme.

A horror film about Gilles de Rais and his unwillingness to "surrender his soul to the Devil" while engaging in horrific acts, on the other hand, would certainly qualify for consideration.

SUBTITLES:
All non-English films must have English subtitles.
