Fairy Fang Films, a queer, femme, and neurodivergent-led NYC production company, presents their debut film festival and screenplay competition. Dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalized artists, this is a celebration of bold and uncompromising work from creatives too often left out of the frame.

The festival takes place Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in the heart of Ridgewood, Queens at Low Cinema; the first theater established in the area since 1927. An exclusive post-screening reception brings filmmakers together to connect and collaborate. Whether you’re here to discover your new favorite up-and-coming indie or to build meaningful connections with others who love the medium as much as you do, Fairy Fang promises an atmosphere where creativity thrives and everyone leaves with a story to tell.

The screenplay section welcomes both short and feature-length submissions, with a $500 prize awarded to the winner. For those seeking deeper engagement, we also offer an application tier that provides professional coverage and feedback on your script.

Eligibility and Identity
- While we accept works from artists of all identities, we especially encourage those who identify as queer, femme, neurodivergent, or BIPOC+ to submit their work. These identities don’t have to be solely limited to the director in the case of films– they also include key crew members such as writers, producers, and cinematographers.

Film & Script Requirements
- We are only accepting short films into our festival, and no submission should exceed a runtime of 30 minutes (including credits).
- We accept feature length scripts for our screenplay competition, but they must be under 120 pages long. Short scripts must be under 30 pages.
- Films and scripts must have been completed within the last two years.
- We welcome films of all genres and in all languages, but films with non-English dialogue should be accompanied by English subtitles before submission. Scripts must be in English.

Submission & Technical Specifications
- All films must be submitted in a digital format compatible with standard cinema projection. We do not accept DCPs. Finalists must provide a high-quality digital file for screening. Accepted file types: MP4 (H.264) or MOV (H.264 or ProRes).
- Filmmakers must hold the rights to all submitted material, including music.
All application fees are non-refundable.

Selection & Attendance
- Selection is at the discretion of the festival’s programming board, and all decisions are final.
- While we don’t require filmmaker finalists to attend the festival for their film to screen, we heavily encourage it and will provide each finalist with one free ticket to the festival.

This is seriously the most inclusive, fun, and creative group of creators I’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with. The program was incredible and so cohesive, and the environment was warm and welcoming. It was such a special festival and it’s set such a high bar, I can’t wait for next year. :)
