This short script competition is open to all registered University of Utah students. The winner and two honorable mentions will receive a cash prize. The winning script will be produced by the Filmmaking courses (FILM 4545/4555) in the coming academic year.

COVID-19 NOTE: Due to the restrictions on campus for the 2020/21 school year, this festival and the course linked with it have been postponed until the next academic year. A reminder that if you were registered as a student during the prior year, you may still enter the competition.

Cash prizes for the winner, and two honorable mentions. The winning short script will be produced during the 2020/21 academic year by students in the fall and spring Filmmaking courses (FILM 4545 & 4555).

This year’s competition is open to both short screenplays and short web-series.

The short screenplay should be:
- written in screenplay format
- 10-15 pages in length
- three locations or less
- 2-4 speaking characters
- writers may submit up to three different scripts in total*
- co-authored work is accepted

Web-series script should be:
- written in screenplay or television format
- submission must include the pilot script plus a show bible including an outline for entire series
- 20 minutes in running time over 4-5 episodes
- three locations or less
- 2-4 main characters
- writers may submit up to three different scripts in total*
- co-authored work is accepted

*Scripts can be any combination of types of submission. For example, 2 short scripts and 1 webseries would be three submissions total.
