FIRST CUT – International Student Short Film Festival
is an international platform dedicated primarily to student filmmakers, focusing on short dramatic films.

FIRST CUT is an open festival with no submission fees.
Film submission and registration are completely free of charge for all participants.

While the festival is student-oriented, it is open to filmmakers of all backgrounds and levels of experience, encouraging participation beyond academic institutions. FIRST CUT aims to create a shared space for emerging voices and established creators to meet, exchange perspectives, and engage in cultural dialogue through cinema.

The festival believes in short film as a powerful form of expression and a meeting point for storytelling, experimentation, and cross-cultural exchange.

FIRST CUT – المهرجان الدولي الطلابي للأفلام القصيرة
هو منصة سينمائية دولية موجّهة بالدرجة الأولى إلى طلبة الفروع الفنية و صناع الأفلام الشباب، ومتخصّصة في الأفلام القصيرة الدرامية برعاية المعهد العالي للفنون المسرحية في سوريا

الهرجان مفتوح، ولا يفرض أي رسوم على التقديم
إن تسجيل الأفلام والمشاركة في المهرجان مجاني بالكامل لجميع المتقدمين

ورغم طابعه الطلابي، يفتح المهرجان باب المشاركة أمام جميع صنّاع الأفلام من مختلف الخلفيات والمستويات، إيمانًا بأهمية التبادل الثقافي والحوار السينمائي بين التجارب الشابة والخبرات المتنوعة

يسعى المهرجان إلى توفير مساحة مشتركة تلتقي فيها الأصوات الجديدة مع صنّاع أفلام من أنحاء مختلفة، حيث تشكّل السينما القصيرة أداة للتعبير، والتجريب، وبناء جسور ثقافية عابرة للحدود

Rules & Terms


The total running time of the submitted film must not exceed 20 minutes, including credits.

Eligibility
The festival is primarily dedicated to student filmmakers. However, submissions are open to all filmmakers, regardless of academic background, as long as the work aligns with the festival’s focus on short dramatic films.

Originality & Authorship
The submitted film must be an original work. The applicant confirms that they are the director and/or the rightful holder of the moral and intellectual rights of the film.

Moral & Intellectual Rights
All moral rights (including authorship, credit, and artistic integrity) remain fully with the filmmaker.
FIRST CUT does not claim ownership of any submitted work.

Screening Rights
By submitting a film, the filmmaker grants FIRST CUT the non-exclusive right to screen the film during the festival dates and in related non-commercial festival activities (such as educational screenings or archival documentation).

Promotional Use
The festival may use short excerpts, still images, or trailers from the submitted film for promotional purposes related exclusively to the festival, with full credit to the filmmaker.

Language & Subtitles
Films in languages other than English or Arabic must include English subtitles.

Submission Responsibility
The filmmaker is responsible for securing all necessary rights related to music, images, archival materials, and performances used in the film.

Selection & Decisions
All selection decisions are final and made by the festival’s selection committee.

مدة الفيلم
يجب ألا تتجاوز مدة الفيلم المشارك 20 دقيقة، بما في ذلك الشارات النهائية

الأهلية
المهرجان موجّه بالدرجة الأولى إلى طلبة السينما، إلا أن باب المشاركة مفتوح أمام جميع صنّاع الأفلام، بغض النظر عن الخلفية الأكاديمية، شرط انسجام الفيلم مع طبيعة المهرجان المتخصّصة بالأفلام القصيرة الدرامية

الأصالة وملكية العمل
يجب أن يكون الفيلم عملاً أصليًا. ويؤكد المتقدّم أنه المخرج و/أو صاحب الحق الأدبي والفكري للعمل

الحقوق الأدبية والفكرية
تبقى جميع الحقوق الأدبية (بما في ذلك نسبة العمل لصاحبه، وحقه المعنوي، وسلامة العمل الفنية) محفوظة بالكامل لصانع الفيلم

حقوق العرض
يوافق صانع الفيلم، عند التقديم، على منح المهرجان حقًا غير حصري لعرض الفيلم ضمن فعاليات المهرجان وأي أنشطة ثقافية أو تعليمية غير ربحية مرتبطة به

الاستخدام الترويجي
يحق للمهرجان استخدام مقاطع قصيرة، صور ثابتة، أو الإعلان التشويقي للفيلم لأغراض ترويجية خاصة بالمهرجان فقط، مع ذكر اسم صاحب العمل

اللغة والترجمة
يجب أن تتضمّن الأفلام غير الناطقة بالعربية أو الإنجليزية ترجمة إنجليزية

مسؤولية الحقوق
يتحمّل صانع الفيلم كامل المسؤولية عن تأمين حقوق الموسيقى، المواد الأرشيفية، الصور، وأي عناصر أخرى مستخدمة في الفيلم

الاختيار والقرارات
قرارات لجنة الاختيار نهائية وغير قابلة للطعن

يحتفظ المهرجان بحقوق تغيير الأنظمة حسب الحاجة
