Experimental Series - Salt Lake City is an experimental video/film series running out of the Union Theatre at the University of Utah.
Short Films (under 40 minutes) submission fee is $10
Feature Films (over 40 minutes) submission fee is $20
Student Films (must be categorized as "Student Film" on FF) is $5
EXPS/SLC is hosted through the School of Dance at the University of Utah. We especially encourage women, queer, non-binary, and disabled creators whose work is rooted in experimental approaches addressing movement, dance, choreography, and/or the body to apply.
We will consider both "traditional screendance" and experimental approaches to dance and choreography. Please apply if your film incorporates movement or the body, but would not typically be considered "dance" (ie: "Bridges Go Round" by Shirley Clarke, "Tango" by Zbigniew Rybczyński, etc).
An example of a previous program can be found here: https://dance.utah.edu/about-us/news-announcements/item/1032-exps-slc-explores-the-idea-of-moving-through-with-new-screening-breath-work . More information about our programs can be found on our Instagram - @exps.slc
Please note that at this time we do not have access to a 32mm, 16mm, or Super 8 projector, and can only project using a digital projector. We are happy to screen your film as a digitized video. If our equipment access changes, we will update accordingly.
Submissions for the 2023-24 EXPS/SLC season will also be considered for programming at the International Screendance Festival (Spring 2024) held at the Salt Lake Film Society in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.
