Emily Davis has written extensively for Messenger Theatre Company, which she co-founded and runs. SEEING INSIDE was performed at St. Ann’s Warehouse for Labapalooza. THE DOOR WAS OPEN was developed with a space grant from Flushing Town Hall. Her plays PERSEPHONE and THE GREAT GOD MONEY were selected for FringeNYC. THE ENEMY was performed as part of Basil Twist’s Puppet Parlor at HERE, BRIC Studios Sink or Swim series and THAW! Her work for children, LITTLE GIRL STEW, got rave reviews at the Canadian Fringe and the NYC Play Outside festival. The Lysistrata adaptation she wrote for the Lysistrata Project was filmed by CNN. She was commissioned to write WHERE THE BELOVED ARE for St. Thomas church in the Virgin Islands and DAPHNE for Carnegie Mellon’s radio series. Her work has been read and performed by Manhattan Theatre Source, Columbia Gorge Repertory Theatre, Spring Theatreworks and Shalimar Productions. Other produced plays include: FIG. Emily completed her MFA in Dramatic Art at University of California, Davis.
Additionally, Emily has several novels in the works, (LEANDRA’S LOST LIBRARY, MR. RICKY’S DANCING SCHOOL, FOUR SISTERS CABERNET, THE LOVE SONG OF DUILIAN MORALES) and writes the blogs SONGS FOR THE STRUGGLING ARTIST (c. 99,422 views) and THE HAMLET PROJECT (c.318,700) views.) She has had articles published in such periodicals as The Feldenkrais Journal, SenseAbility and Voices. She is a recipient of the International Performing Arts for Youth Colleen Porter Resident Artist Award. Her play, ERRORS BEFORE ERRORS, was a finalist for the American Shakespeare Center’s Shakespeare’s New Contemporaries award and OCHRE PARK was a semi-finalist. She was a semi-finalist for the 2018 Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center National Playwrights Conference with her play, MEDUSA SLAIN BY PERSEUS. Her audio drama, THE DRAGONING, was nominated for Audio Verse awards in 2020 and 2022 and has charted in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, India, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden and the United States of America.
