Elisabeth Brun (b. 1977, Northern Norway) is a filmmaker and researcher working at the intersection of documentary, philosophy, and visual art. She holds a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Oslo and has a background as a documentary director for Norwegian public broadcaster NRK (2001–2014).
Brun wrote, photographed, and directed the experimental short 3xShapes of Home (2020), which was awarded the Ivan Juritz Prize for Creative Experiment by King’s College London and nominated for Best Video Essay by Sight & Sound in 2021. The film has screened at festivals such as Oberhausen Kurzfilmtage, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma Montreal and Vienna Shorts, receiving awards and special mentions.
Earlier in her career, she directed 9 documentaries, and one TV-series for Norwegian Public Broadcaster NRK. She was awarded best documentary (Murmansk TV & Film Festival 2009) and several of her TV productions were sold to European broadcasters such as Italy’s RAI, Ireland’s RTÉ, Poland’s TVN, and Spain’s RTVE. Since 2020, her work has taken on a more artistic and essayistic form, engaging with questions of how technology shape experience and culture.
