Eric R Kok is a Kimberley born award-winning Author, Filmmaker and Community Activist who aspires to put his province on the map. He specializes in both Scriptwriting and Directing for Film and Stage.
In 2019 he applied to the SAACYF Script To Screen scriptwriting Bootcamp over the course of five weeks in Johannesburg. Eric not only completed the intense workshop but made it to the top 3 and also represented the Northern Cape province. The following year he received the AfriCAN Authors Awards 2020. He has written numerous stories many of which have been published in newspapers, magazines and also broadcast on radio.
He wrote, produced and directed Kimberley's very first Radio Drama, KWAR@NTYN of which the first season was later adapted for stage production in September 2020. Eric also completed a Filmmaking and Scriptwriting course through City Varsity. The following year, he produced and directed his first full-length Afrikaans film, "Liesbet",
based on the story he wrote in 2017. Liesbet has so far won 4 official selections at
international film festivals and 2 official selections at local film festivals. "Liesbet" wins 5 honors at the Thokoza film festival held in Gauteng.
He writes and directs the full-length documentary, "Breaking Barriers - The Fitzpatrick Story" which tells the story of a champion sportsman who through a show of resilience overcame his disability and went on to inspire others, through his many achievements. The documentary premiered on 30 November 2022 in Kimberley and has been submitted to a number Film Festivals both Local and International.
He produces short documentaries for Cape Town-based iKasi Creative NPC. These short documentary programs focus on raising awareness of social issues affecting communities and also an opportunity for such communities to tell their stories. It is broadcast weekly on Dstv channel 263, Capetown tv.
In 2023 He produced two more stage plays "Lena Se Lot", which deals with gender-based violence and "Skyf" which highlights the affects that drugs have on our society and the youth.
