We’re excited to announce that the Duemila30 Festival will be back in 2026, revitalized, reimagined, and ready to celebrate the next generation of social-impact storytellers.
Duemila30 is the world’s leading gathering for emerging filmmakers committed to social impact. Each year, more than 200 young creators from across the globe come together in Milan for four unforgettable days of activities and inspiring connections.
Duemila30 is a community grounded in mutual care, expressed not only through the festival’s processes and programme, but also through the short films it selects. The festival is dedicated to student films that seek to activate processes of re-humanisation, care, and shared responsibility, generally inspired by the UN 2023 Agenda and in line with our declaration of intents (https://www.duemila30.com/spaces).

Duemila30 Festival was created with one main purpose: to connect people and heal our communities of young creatives.
We believe in building spaces where meaningful encounters can happen, where we can all come together through care, to become active makers of an international community of common grounds.
That is why Duemila30 is a festival like no other; a shared space of intentions, focused less on the short films presented and more on the people behind them and the stories they carry.

Over the years, our legacy has helped spread a clear message: cinema can be a tool for connection, not competition. Duemila30 stands apart as an international and diverse film festival where filmmakers from dozens of countries gather annually. This creates a unique environment that not only embraces cultural differences but actively celebrates them. Such diversity is essential to fulfilling our mission of fostering connection and building community. Filmmakers from more than 50 countries come together every year, creating a unique environment where we are part of a process of healing and re-humanisation, celebrating creativity and art as means for the most noble goal: building community.
To make all of this possible, we strive to build opportunities that go beyond the festival itself. While participation is free, and we cover accommodation costs for the majority of participants, joining our community gives you the opportunity to access the entire ecosystem. This includes our film residency programme as well as collaborative production grants.
Duemila30 is not just a festival you attend. It’s a community you become part of.
Submit your social-impact short film and join us for free in Milan.

At Duemila30, awards are not the core of the experience. The Best Short Award is decided through peer voting, because we believe in shared recognition rather than competition.
What truly matters is becoming part of a creative community where many other opportunities can unfold:
- the chance to collaborate on new short films through small production grants
- the possibility of joining our 10-day artistic residency, Duemila30 Lab, set in the Italian countryside.
Duemila30 is not about winning—it’s about connecting, creating, and growing together.

Duemila30 welcomes student-directed short films that reflect a strong personal voice and a commitment to social impact.
Submissions open on October 7th, 2024 and close on March 31th, 2026*.
Participation is completely free.
Short films must be submitted with English subtitles, regardless of the language they are shot in. Non-English films with dialogue that do not include subtitles cannot be considered.
Eligible short films must have been completed from January 2024 onwards. Each participant may submit up to one short films per year.
If a short film is selected, we kindly expect at least one member of the team to attend the Festival, scheduled for July 26th, 2026*. All shortlisted filmmakers are personally invited (together with their cast and crew) to join the programme in Milan. Only the short films of the attending filmmakers will be screened and will run for the competition. Duemila30 is an immersive experience, specifically designed to provide emerging international talents with an opportunity for professional and personal growth. All short films will be screened in movie theaters and will benefit from dedicated feedback sessions with the festival’s guests.
* Dates may be subject to change.
All submitted films should be inspired by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda and/or by our declaration of intents (https://www.duemila30.com/spaces). We are looking for works that address clear humanitarian issues (whether social or environmental, local or global) and that invite audiences to reflect, raise awareness, and engage critically with the world around them. Films may act as a call for change or offer an intimate look into a pressing contemporary issue.

It's really about the people, like meeting so many young filmmakers from all over the world, exchanging experience and finding common ground on the topics. Also the organizers really making sure everyone gets a chance to connect. Definitely can recommend and hope to go there again next year :)
