The Dublin Smartphone Film Festival

The Dublin Smartphone Film Festival (DUBSMARTFF) is an international festival dedicated to celebrating work shot on Smartphones.

No longer is expensive technology a barrier to creativity. The mobile phone has expanded the scope and freedom for filmmakers. Now aspiring artists have the ability to write, shoot and edit, their films at the touch of a button. Smartphones are reshaping the way we approach filmmaking creating limitless possibilities in the palm of your hand.

The festival was created with the goal of encouraging these filmmakers to share the stories they have captured on mobile devices. We also aim to provide a platform to exhibit these stories to a wider audience. It is also a chance to reward storytellers, who are using these devices to push the boundaries of narrative and style.

The festival takes place in the month of January and submissions are open to anyone with a Smartphone a compelling story to tell. Throughout the year there will be events designed to challenge filmmakers and revolutionize the way we approach filmmaking.

  • I wasn't able to attend the festival in Dublin but I felt like I was there from the social media (promoting my film before and after the event...) and the contact I had with Rob regarding uploading the film and promo materials and then receiving prizes.

There appeared (from the pics) to be a really warm atmosphere and I would jump at attending in the future!

    Cheers Rob!

What an honor to have been part of this festival. The passion this festival team has for building a platform for filmmakers and their support for the mobile filmmaking movement is admirable. This festival goes above and beyond to honor storytellers and celebrate the accessible tools mobile devices provide to artists. I am grateful for the team and all that they do to support mobile filmmaking.

  • This was my first year at Dublin Smartphone Film Festival and I will certainly be back next year! Communication with the management was personal and professional, and a selection of wonderful, thought-provoking films were shown throughout the event. With more and more filmmakers using smartphones, DUBSMARTFF has strong potential to grow into one of Ireland's leading film festivals. I look forward to next year's event!
