Doug MacDougall is a former educator and school administrator from Hamilton (Canada). Not only is Doug a veteran actor with over 30+ years in regional theatre and TV/Film in the Toronto area but as longtime Technical Director for PlayZoomers (Boston, MA), he has been involved with over 90 productions (and counting) over the past few years. A true multi-hyphenate (actor, director, screenwriter, and producer) Doug recently created a series of award-winning musical fairytale-based webseries (Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, Robin the Hood) and now is excited for the launch of his latest webseries in 2025, a film noir/murder mystery parody entitled Once Upon a Crime. This webseries had a exclusive, limited premiere in December as part of an ongoing online Christmas charity fundraiser which has raised over $9,000 for foodbanks in North America over the last 5 years.
Born the middle child of three, my folks must have had a real chuckle christening me with my first name smack dab in the middle of my last name - MACDOUGALL ! And so, I guess you can see where I get wicked sense of humour from! Now, not only was I somehow destined for greater things as a teacher, but I also developed quite a flair for the aesthetic. As an actor, I realized I could escape to a whole other world - another reality in time and space - and become a storyteller, bringing the author’s words to life through the characters I would inhabit. I could virtually experience things that I wouldn't normally get to do in my day-to-day life. I would be able to channel a full range of emotions and engage audiences as an actor with my interpretation of a whole variety of characters. I believe acting is a collaboration between writer, director, and actor to create thought-provoking stories about the human condition that entertain, captivate, inspire, and resonate with audiences the world over.
If I were to describe myself in 3 words, it would have to be:
- CREATIVE (able to envision a whole world of possibilities)
- ORGANIZED (able to plan and compartmentalize various constructs)
- RESILIENT (able to rise above rejection, discrimination and adversity)
