Dominic Allen is an award-winning Australian writer, director and producer working across narrative cinema, documentary and immersive media. With a background in fine arts and art history, his work often explores place, memory, culture and the relationship between landscape and identity.

He began his filmmaking career with Estudio 101, a documentary following The Cat Empire recording in Havana’s EGREM studios, before directing and producing films exploring fair trade, migration and Australian identity, including One Cup, Speaking Australian and the short drama Two Men. Two Men won the Melbourne International Film Festival Emerging Australian Filmmaker Award and was a Dendy Award finalist at Sydney Film Festival.

Allen later produced Grey Matter, the debut feature by Rwandan filmmaker Kivu Ruhorahoza, which premiered in the World Narrative Competition at Tribeca Film Festival, where it received a Special Jury Mention and a Jury Award for Best Actor. His immersive documentary Carriberrie, narrated by David Gulpilil, was presented at Cannes NEXT at the 71st Marché du Film and later adapted into fulldome and large-format exhibition contexts.

His documentary work includes Planet Wind, winner of the Audience Award at Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, and Planet Sun, an international feature documentary exploring humanity’s relationship with solar energy. He also produced Frozen Waters, a climate-focused documentary following Lewis Pugh’s Antarctic ice swim.

TIBER is Allen’s debut narrative feature as writer-director. Shot in Italian across Rome, Cortona and Florence, the film draws on his time studying art history in Rome and his long engagement with Italian art, memory and landscape.
