Dmitriy Usov is a Los Angeles–based director, writer, and producer whose films emerge from displacement. Raised between Cyprus, Russia, Germany, and the United States, he grew up without a singular homeland and found belonging through cinema. His work is inspired by the underrepresented inner life of the immigrant, the quiet estrangement, fractured identity, and longing to feel whole.
Blending magical realism, dark fantasy, and subtle science fiction, Dmitriy creates visually driven, performance-led films that explore intimacy, desire, and illusion in the space between dreams and waking life. His films include The Dreamer (2025), Mary and Gus (2025), and The Unhuman Voice (2023), and have been featured by Nowness, Vimeo Staff Picks, The Film Shortage, Flaunt Magazine, and the Indie Shorts Film Festival.
Dmitriy holds a BA in Film & TV Production and Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University, with a minor in Classics and Archaeology, and is currently developing short-form, feature, and long-form projects.
