Directed by Her is an annual film festival presented by the GALPAL Collective. With its first year tickets selling out for our screening at the Irish Film Institute. Beginning its fourth year now, Directed by Her promises to be a fulfilling celebration for the women, non-binary and/or FLINTA* film communities of Ireland.

The GALPAL Collective is a dynamic community-driven organisation committed to empowering and uplifting underrepresented voices in the arts and entertainment industry. Through their various initiatives, including the GALPAL Collective Writers Club, Coffee Conversations and more, they aim to foster inclusivity, cultivate community, provide support, and create opportunities for emerging talents in the creative realm. Directed by Her is three days across various Dublin venues jam packed with screenings, workshops, talks and networking opportunities.

Directed by Her is an annual film festival held in celebration of works from women, non-binary and/or FLINTA* directors. We only accept entries with works directed by women, non-binary and/or FLINTA* directors (this can include co-direction). Submissions not meeting this entry requirement will be automatically disqualified.

As part of The GALPAL Collective's and Directed by Her's mission to employ greater diversity in its programming, we welcome submissions from varied ethnicities and marginalised voices as well as seeking greater parity. Please make us aware of the diversity in your project when submitting your film/piece.

Submitting your film: For viewing purposes entries should be submitted by screening link only at the submission stage through FilmFreeway (direct upload, Vimeo or YouTube only).

Irish Short Film - Eligibility Requirements
Short films from Ireland with directors identifying under women, non-binary and/or FLINTA* who are from and/or resident of the island of Ireland with maximum duration of 20 minutes.

Short films (narrative or documentary) made in Ireland with directors identifying under women, non-binary and/or FLINTA* with maximum duration of 20 minutes.

No premiere status requirements

Irish short films completed before 2025 are not eligible

Irish Music Video - Eligibility Requirements
Music videos from Ireland with directors identifying under women, non-binary and/or FLINTA* who are from and/or resident of the island of Ireland with maximum duration of 8 minutes.

Music videos made in Ireland with directors identifying under women, non-binary and/or FLINTA* with maximum duration of 8 minutes.

No premiere status requirements

Music videos completed before before 2025 are not eligible

Short Film Screenplay Competition
Short film screenplays from Ireland with writers identifying under women, non-binary and/or FLINTA* who are from and/or resident of the island of Ireland with maximum length of 15 pages. Screenplays must be UNPRODUCED works at time of submission.

If the cost of the submission fee presents a barrier to entering your work, we offer a limited number of fee waivers to support equitable access. Please reach out to thegalpalcollective@gmail.com to request a waiver, and our team will guide you through the process.
