The Des Moines Latino Film Festival (DMLFF), established in 2021, is presented annually by the Latino Center of Iowa (LCI). LCI is a nonprofit organization that promotes cultural awareness, develops leadership skills, and foster connections with the Latino community in central Iowa. The DMLFF supports and celebrates the rich cultural diversity in Iowa by featuring films from Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and the United States. DMLFF is made possible through a partnership with the Chicago Latino Film Festival. The 2025 festival will be held April 11 at the Varsity Theater in Des Moines.

DMLFF is non-competitive. However, an Audience Choice Award will be given for one feature film and one short film.

Any fiction film, documentary, experimental, or animation in any genre will be considered that meets at least one of the following criteria:
• Made by Latino filmmakers
• Subject matter directly related to Latino culture

We are primarily interested this year in short films, though any length of submission will be accepted and reviewed. Limited to one film submission per filmmaker.

We make efforts to provide an accessible festival to our community and the filmmakers. There is a $25 fee for submitting your film for consideration. This fee helps offset festival expenses.

Submissions
Make your submission to: https://filmfreeway.com/DesMoinesLatinoFilmFestival

The DMLFF Technical Committee selects all features and shorts.
A secure online screener with a password (Vimeo) is the accepted format for pre-selection. Other formats will be considered.
Include your email, phone number, and mailing address.

Language
If your work is in a language other than English, your submission must include English subtitles.
Works in English should include Spanish subtitles to ensure accessibility to our target audience.

Permissions
All participants must have all rights and permissions of every kind necessary for the film, including use of names, trade names, service marks, titles, formats, ideas, characters, character names, characterizations, plots, musical compositions, performances, slogans, program material or any similar material.

Acceptance Notification and Terms
All participants will be notified via Film Freeway in early February whether their submission has been accepted for the upcoming festival.

Selected films must provide:
• Synopsis of film in English and Spanish. Provide original title, English title, and running time.
• High-resolution photos of the film

• Film in DCP and .mp4 formats including applicable subtitles (English or Spanish)

DMLFF reserves the right to screen all films at the date, time and location of its choice.
Shipping costs will be paid by the participant.

Filmmaker Participation
DMLFF encourages question and answer discussions with the filmmaker following in-person film screenings. We also encourage pre-recorded discussions from the filmmaker if attendance is not a possibility. DMLFF will coordinate directly with the filmmaker to develop a plan.
