DENIS DHIKUSOOKA JUNIOR
Film Director | Producer | Writer | Editor | 3D Animator | Founder of Allproken Film Studio & Verah Animation Studio
Born in Jinja City, Eastern Uganda, and raised in Central Kampala, Denis Dhikusooka Junior began shaping his cinematic dreams early on. While pursuing a Business course at Makerere University in 2009, he discovered his true passion—storytelling through film. What began as small drama skits performed before simple campus audiences quickly evolved into a professional filmmaking career.
In 2012, Denis made his professional debut with Trespass, a feature film that earned 4 nominations at the Uganda Film Festival and 6 nominations at the Pearl International Film Festival. This marked the beginning of a remarkable career that would see him become one of Uganda’s most consistent and visionary filmmakers.
Over the past decade, Denis has directed and produced more than 23 films, amassing over 6 prestigious film awards and 10+ nominations across Africa. He has been commissioned by DSTV to produce three major films, including Wizards of Kampala and The Cwezi Dynasty—the latter becoming one of the most-watched and celebrated films on the platform. His hit television series Loving Tyra became the first Ugandan series to stream on Showmax, running successfully for over eight seasons.
As the founder of Pearl Wonders Studios and Verah Animation Studio, Denis has redefined the Ugandan animation landscape. Widely recognized as the leading animation filmmaker in Uganda, his animated works—Kataleya, Amara and the Spirit of Nyamagunda, The Guardian, Kalooli, and Famous—have dominated national and international film festivals. In the past year alone, his animation projects swept the top three Ugandan festivals—Pearl International Film Festival, Uganda Film Festival, and Ikon Film & TV Awards—and also clinched two consecutive wins at the Kaduna International Film Festival in Nigeria.
His latest film, Amara and the Spirit of Nyamagunda, has continued to break barriers, earning a prestigious nomination at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for Best Animation Film, affirming Denis’s growing presence on the continental stage.
VISION & CREATIVE PHILOSOPHY
Denis Dhikusooka believes that film is not just entertainment—it is a mirror through which societies see their truths, pain, joy, and identity. His vision is to elevate African storytelling through powerful visuals, deeply emotional narratives, and authentic cultural representation. Through his studios, Denis continues to mentor young creators and push for global recognition of Ugandan artistry in the digital age.
