Davy Lazare is a Caribbean-born writer, director and poet, now based in London.
Early in his career, he ran workshops in filmmaking for serving offenders at a prison in the north of England. This experience opened Davy's eyes to the transformative power of film, and set him on a lifelong mission to create work that inspires social and cultural change.
Davy's narrative work is bold, unflinching, yet full of nuance and texture. His film 'Bodies' was a Best Microshort Nominee at Birmingham Film Festival. This project fused spoken word poetry (written & performed by Davy), with dance expression, to tell a powerful story on the oppression of the "black body" in the UK.
For Davy's latest work You Fit The Description, he wrote, directed, produced and self-funded the piece; describing it as "a story impossible not to tell". The gritty short holds a mirror up to the police, and shines a light on the trauma of Stop & Search.
With over twelve years in the industry, Davy has also to lent his talents to commercial clients, Directing TV commercials for Ford, and creating work for the likes of Def Jam, the Co-op, Channel 4 and ITV.
