David Rivera is the Associate Director of AV Services with Houston Ballet. He earned a B.A. in Media Production from the University of Houston in 2011 and has been producing, filming and directing video for Houston Ballet for the past 13 years. He has filmed over 90 ballets for the Company and creates the majority of Houston Ballet’s social media video content. David’s work has been praised by Pointe Magazine and Dance Magazine. Beginning in the fall of 2020, David collaborated with artistic director of Houston Ballet, Stanton Welch AM, on the creation of a series of dance film projects for Houston Ballet including Dancing with Myself (2020), Restoration (2020), Adroit: clever or skillful in using the hands or mind (2021), PLAY (2021) and In Good Company (2021) - a collaboration with the band The Dead South to create 11 short dance films set to their music. In Good Company garnered critical acclaim and was adapted into a live stage version for Houston Ballet’s Margaret Alkek Williams Jubilee of Dance. David’s dance films outside of Houston Ballet have been featured in festivals nationwide including the Third Coast Dance Film Festival, ADF’s Movies By Movers and FilmFest by Rogue Dancer. The Houston-based Frame x Frame Film Festival recently showcased three of his works, including the short documentary feature The Family Mantra (2023). He has also served as a curator for Frame Dance’s Microdances Film Festival and Frame X Frame Student Film Fest.
