Darragh O’Rourke (born 8 August 2004) is an Irish filmmaker, writer, director, editor, producer, and entrepreneur based in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. A self-taught filmmaker, O’Rourke’s work is rooted in independent, small-scale production and is shaped by a strong artistic and philosophical interest in atmosphere, character, and the often overlooked details of everyday life. His films frequently explore dramatic and darkly comedic themes through art-house approaches and visually driven storytelling. His most recent film, A Savage Silence, an ultra-low-budget musical drama adapted from the novel of the same name by Rory Hafford, brought increased attention to his work for its distinctive character portrayals and its youth-driven, Midlands-based production ethos. Following the film’s release, O’Rourke established D.S. O’Rourke Films Ireland as an independent banner for his ongoing film, video, and media-related work. He is associated with a new generation of emerging Irish filmmakers developing narrative cinema from grassroots origins and distinctly personal creative voices.
