-Eligibility and Submission Process-

Non-English language films must include English subtitles.

Films can be any length up to 20 minutes runtime including credits.

Films should be submitted in a digital format and if selected be able to provide a DCP or downloadable version in a format such as .mp4 or .mov for screening purposes. Festival staff will advise which format is required upon selection (we can assist with DCP creation for a minimal charge).

Submissions must be received by the specified deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Multiple submissions are allowed, but each submissions will require its own entry fee.

Entry Fees are not refundable.

Submissions will only be accepted via FilmFreeway.

-Content Guidelines-

Films that contain pornographic or discriminatory content will not be accepted.

Submissions must be an original work, and the applicant holds the sole responsibility of copyright clearance of any copyrighted material in the film.

-Selection-

Submitted films will be reviewed and selected by a committee of judges.

By submitting your film you grant Dark and Stormy Nights Film Festival permission to screen it at the festival and use clips and stills from it for promotional purposes including print, video, audio, and new media.

Rules and terms are subject to change.

-Selection Perks-
Filmmaker attendees are requested to participate in Q&A and panels to discuss their films, as well as filmmaking in general. Writer/producer/director or actors are preferred, but we welcome anyone from your team that can represent your film and participate in Q&A sessions.

-Venues-
Festival organizers reserve the right to select the appropriate venue for your project. Projects with industry standard picture and sound quality will be given priority at the theater, and every effort will be made to optimize quality screenings for films shown at the satellite venues. For example, a project filmed on a Netflix approved camera and finished in 4K with a 5.1 surround mix is more likely to screen at Ocean Shores Cinema while a stereo mix 1080p project filmed on a cell phone may screen at the satellite venue. However, we will afford the same red carpet treatment to all venues as ALL filmmakers deserve to be honored!

-Lodging-
We are happy to host you here at the beach as a thank you for your film! Upon notification of selection, filmmakers will have two weeks to confirm their attendance to and secure their room. If you notify us after the two week deadline, lodging is not guaranteed, but we will make every effort to accommodate you.
