Daphne was born in Chicago to two Chinese immigrants - an aspiring software engineer obtaining a Master’s at Northwestern and a pharmaceutical chemist. After two years of living in a one-room apartment above a cigarette store, they moved to suburban Wisconsin.
Daphne became heavily involved in environmental policy work. She founded her high school’s Green Team and non-profit Dane County Youth Environmental Committee. For four years, she served on the City of Middleton Sustainability Committee and interned for the non-profit Sustain Dane and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
For three years, Daphne petitioned and pushed a sustainability resolution through the Middleton Cross-Plains Area School District board, reaching 100% renewable energy by 2035 and reducing waste by 35% by 2025. For her commitment to public service, she was awarded the U.S. Gold Congressional Medal, U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award, and Wisconsin Association for Environmental Educators' Student of the Year.
Upon graduation, Daphne ranked #1 by the Wisconsin Academic Excellence Award with 18 AP credits. She was President of her school's DECA and FBLA and was awarded 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholar for Career and Technical Education (CTE).
After being offered admission to top universities (Princeton, Columbia, Dartmouth, Berkeley, etc.), Daphne chose to attend Yale University. Her sister attends a top private boarding school in Wallingford, CT. Daphne is an Economics and Film & Media Studies double major with a GPA of 3.91.
At Yale, Daphne serves as President of the Yale Cinematic Productions and Director of Membership of the Yale Undergraduate Legal Aid Association. She has interned for feature film "Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret," Los-Angeles ACE Entertainment Company, Toluca Pictures, Congresswoman Rosa Delauro, and Wisconsin's Democratic Governor Tony Evers.
Recently, Daphne was a lead actress in “Hindsight," a short film that won the Student World Impact Film Festival (SWIFF) Drama award, and was also lead actress for “DIANE," “Birthday Wish," and “Back Home." As a first-year, she produced two Yale senior thesis films, one of which won the prestigious Howard R. Lamar Prize.
