Originally from the UK, Colin is a multi-award-winning writer, director, producer, actor, and art department member. He grew up on a London council estate, the son of an East End bookie who did business with some of the London underworld's more colourful characters in rooms most people didn’t enter and with men most people didn’t cross.
Colin attended college in California, qualifying as a commercial pilot before returning to the UK to serve in the Special Air Service (SAS) Reserves. He holds British, Canadian, and Irish (EU) passports.
With decades of production experience, Colin has accumulated more than 350 hours of film and television credits, working internationally on major studio features and high-end series across the UK, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with acclaimed directors including Brian De Palma, James Cameron, Frank Oz, John Landis, Sidney J. Furie, and Paul Feig. He is a full voting member of the Television Academy (EMMYs).

The film received four Leo Awards from the Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Foundation of British Columbia, including Best Short Drama, Best Direction – Short Drama (Colin Matthews), Best Screenwriting – Short Drama (Colin Matthews), and Best Performance – Short Drama (Chelah Horsdal). It also received additional nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Sound, bringing its total nominations to six.
The film was also honoured with three Golden Sheaf Awards at the 79th Yorkton Film Festival, including Best Film in the Mental Health category, Best Performance (Chelah Horsdal), and Emerging Filmmaker of the Year (Colin Matthews).
An accomplished improviser, Colin is a former member of the award-winning Vancouver Theatresports Improv League. As an actor, he has appeared in television series, feature films, and numerous stage productions.
As a writer, Colin has been a finalist in major competitions including the Final Draft Big Break, the Academy Nicholl Fellowship, the PAGE Awards, the Stowe Story Labs Fellowship, the Austin Film Festival, and the ISA Fast Track Fellowship, among others. He won the UK-based Scribe Lounge Elevate Screenwriting Competition held in partnership with Sid Gentle Films and Tall Story Pictures. His scripts have been featured on The Stunt List / Originals Bureau, The Grey List (twice), the Maximum Z Showcase, and Coverfly’s List of Lists, highlighting top emerging screenwriters.
Alongside his creative career, Colin spent a decade in global finance as a Vice President in the stock brokerage division of one of the world’s largest banks, where he personally oversaw more than $4 billion in managed assets.
He currently has a true-crime television series in development with a Vancouver-based production company, and his latest short story, Single Cask, was recently published in the Consumed horror anthology.
