Ciera Thompson, an Atlanta-based narrative screenwriter, stands at the forefront of a new era in filmmaking. From writing and producing a college web-series to crowdfunding her first short film, Ciera Thompson believes in the power of independent artistry and loves the creative freedom that comes with it. It’s a freedom that allows her to tackle the topics most important to her: community, self-acceptance, and challenging the status quo.
Growing up in Durham North Carolina, Ciera found comfort in watching shows like Grey’s Anatomy, LOST, The 100 and many others. She was always searching for more LGTBQ+ characters that not only she could relate to but that she could see doing incredible things in the action-adventure space. Ciera realized through her own family, that discussing hard topics is easier to do outside of our current reality. That’s when she started writing. She wrote worlds that her friends wouldn’t dream of leaving as LGBTQ+ suicide rates rose before her eyes. She wrote stories that pulled the viewer in and shared a new perspective without them being aware that they were relating to a character that they would have never spoken to in real life.
In 2020, Ciera was awarded 2nd place for Best Television Pilot at the Broadcast Educators Association Awards. From there, she took her talents to Atlanta where she’s produced over 60+ commercial and corporate spots. She’s a 4-time Telly award-winning producer. After, producing work for her clients, Ciera realized she could use her skills to tell her own stories.
A rising voice in the fight for intersectional equality, Ciera is not just a director; she's a storyteller on a mission. Her commitment to bringing diverse perspectives to the screen is evident in every frame, as she transforms settings into characters, offering audiences a complete sensory experience.
Beyond her directorial endeavors, Ciera is a mentor and advocate for the next generation of filmmakers. Her impact extends beyond the screen, actively guiding and inspiring young talents through her involvement with Girls Rock Film Camp.

When she’s not writing, directing, or producing, Ciera enjoys playing board games with her friends, playing with her black cat Timmy Todd and painting water color art.
