I sang a lot as a kid. This led to my first band at age 16. In college I studied voice under Grayson Hirst (https://www.sonsoforpheus.org/director.htm) at the University of Arizona. Despite his encouragement, I did not pursue a vocal performance major. Classical voice was too stodgy for me. Instead I joined various original bands. We recorded, played out, and had some brushes with success opening for Modern English, Citizen King, and the Flys.

In 2000 I Graduated with a BA in Media Arts, moved to San Francisco, and got a job as a creative (Art Director, Multimedia developer). This gave me the opportunity to do sound design and composition for corporate clients such as Intel and Wells Fargo. In 2002, I entered the freelance pool as a multimedia developer (Flash). There I produced original music and sound design for corporate clients Neutrogena, Philips, Nissan, and Wellhome. I also took on sound design and composition for two independent mobile game companies (SlowLife Games, HyperMechanics). At the same time I finished up my solo album which I started in 2001.

Working on the album was my first serious effort at audio engineering. Despite my best efforts at mixing and mastering, I decided to hire a pro. That was a great decision. The experience made me realize how much skill was involved in mixing. I continued to work on my recording, mixing, and production skills from 2001 onwards.

Around 2004 I met Joe Medina and started drumming in his band Merch. (http://www.thevinyldistrict.com/storefront/2017/11/graded-on-a-curve-merch-amour-bohemian/). This was the start of a long friendship and work partnership. We went on two small west coast tours and finished an album around 2008.

In 2007, my daughter was born. I quit my full time job as a flash developer and became a full-time dad. Still, I kept active with music technology. I joined the Bay Area Recording Mixing Mastering and Production Group (BARMMAP). My mixing progressed from personal work to professional work. Of note, I was proud to mix and co-produce the album Amour Bohemian (2018) which garnered critical praise and featured the Prague FILMharmonic Orchestra.

Since the pandemic I have reunited with old band mates for what appears to be a hip-hop project (https://the-citrus-kids.square.site/). I am slated to co-produce and mix Merch’s 3rd album, and I continue to take on mixing, mastering, and production work.
