Chouwa Liang is a documentary filmmaker based in Beijing. She graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne, specializing in documentary filmmaking. Since 2018, Chouwa has produced a series of short documentaries, including "Intimate Strangers" (2019), "I Love You Too" (2019), "A Distant World" (2018), and "My AI Lover" (2022). Her works predominantly explore contemporary intimate relationships in China from a female perspective. Her recent productions have been showcased and awarded at various film festivals both domestically and internationally, and have been featured on platforms like The New York Times Opdocs, Aeon in the US, and Rhode Island PBS in 2023.
Chouwa is currently preparing her feature-length documentary, "Replica" which has received awards at the China Fresh Pitch Conference, Taiwan CCDF Conference, the Global Pitch, the Australian AIDC Conference, and the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Conference in China. In addition to her filmmaking, she is also an active curator and has been an invited curator for the Mother's Film Festival in 2022 and 2023. Chouwa also co-founded the "Moms, Make Films" workshop, aiming to empower Chinese mothers to voice their stories.
