Cheltenham’s independent film festival - Celebrating cinema, moving image and the art of filmmaking

FilmChelt is run by a not-for-profit charity, bringing an exciting programme of films and events to the heart of Cheltenham.

FilmChelt rolled out as a refreshed non-profit, charitable organisation, with a new website and brand identity for its inaugural 2025 Film Festival.

Previewing the best upcoming films to debut on the festival scene, highlights from the 2025 festival included Oscar and BAFTA nominees Sentimental Value, It was Just an Accident, Nouvelle Vague, Die My Love, The History of Sound and many more acclaimed titles receiving their UK and regional premieres.

The 2026 edition will run from Friday 30 October to Sunday 8 November.

Mission Statement:

FilmChelt exists independently as a non-profit charity run entirely by volunteers.

Film festivals and cinemas offer independent filmmakers essential visibility and support, and audiences the opportunity to see a broad range of interesting, challenging and entertaining cinema—opportunities that streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon and others increasingly undermine.

This is why we are passionate about sustaining a thriving film festival in the town. The festival aims to make independent and international cinema accessible, inclusive, and engaging for both creators and audiences.

We will be introducing an Audience Award for selective titles in 2026.

All films submitted must be made with the last 18 months.
