Chaturbhuj is a celebration of the four-sided frame, of the treasures of narratives, meanings and experiences which reveal themselves to us when an animation film unfolds on the rectangular screen.

For magic does happen...

Initiated by Arun Gupta, Chaturbhuj is an annual student film festival of the Animation department of Unitedworld Institute of Design, Gandhinagar, India. Part of the festival's budget is organised by student themselves in Jhalak - a fundraiser event.

Beyond screening of selected national and international films, the two-day festival features immersive media installations and exhibitions highlighting significant aspects of Indian animation, a gaming zone and interactions with prominent guests.

The past editions have featured packages from Annecy, films from various Indian design institutions and hosted interaction with the likes of E. Suresh, Pradipta Ray, T. N. Bharanidharan and Virendra Chauhan.

Awards & Prizes

Chaturbhuj is a non-competitive festival. The focus is on exposing students to a broad array of student work from across the world and India.

Rules & Terms

- 1-10 minute short animated student films, completed in the last one year.
- All genres, tools, techniques accepted. If mixed with live-action, 70% of the film's content must be animated.
- International, UG/ Bachelors and PG/ Masters, classroom/ graduation/ individual/ group films accepted.
- Films made by non-Art/ Craft/ Design students are welcome.
- Include max. 50 word synopsis, 2-3 stills, photo of a valid identity card.

- Preferred format: MP4 playable in VLC Media Player.
Video 24/25/30fps, 1080p, 10-20Mbps, H264/H265.
Audio Stereo, 128-320kbps, 44-48KHz, AAC-LC.
Subtitles in English (embedded/ SRT or VTT) are a must.

- Excerpts from submitted material may be used for on/offline publicity, documentation, and archival purposes.
- Submitter will be responsible for copyright and permissions related issues.
- Chaturbhuj is a zero-fee festival, and offers no screening fee.
- Decision of the organisers will be final and binding.
